Job Story
WSU Libraries is seeking a student assistant with morning availability, to provide services offered within Access services, gaining experience in multiple areas of the library, including Circulation, Stacks, and Interlibrary Loan.

Job Summary
A student assistant will carry out administrative and technical tasks requested by a supervisor. Depending on the area the student assistant is employed in, they may assist and mentor other students or provide support throughout the campus in various forms.

Job Duties
Circulation
• Checking library materials in and out, renewing them and placing holds on them
• Answering basic questions about the library, its policies and services, and campus directions
• Assisting library users with room bookings, locating items, etc.
Interlibrary Loan
• Retrieving materials from the stacks and packaging them for shipping for Interlibrary Loan
• Scan print articles and chapters on overhead book scanner and deliver electronically to patrons
Stacks
• Searching for lost/missing library materials
• Responsible for service, maintenance, and knowledge of WSU Library stacks
• Assists with inventory control of the physical collection to include performing maintenance within the stacks
All Areas
• Demonstrating basic customer service skills
• Gathering statistics for projects as requested by the staff
• Must become adept with office equipment, including copier, scanner, and computer
• Become familiar with our library catalog and journal databases
• Other duties as assigned.

Required Education
High School diploma or equivalent. Enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours at Wichita State University.

Additional Requirements
• Morning availability, preferably 7am - 1pm
• Enrolled at WSU
• Good communication skills
• Able to follow written and oral instructions
• Basic computer skills
• Duties include: squatting, bending, lifting between 5 and 50 pounds, and other physical work

Required Experience
This is specific to each position and department. See additional requirements and preferences.

Preferred Qualifications
• Customer service experience
• Library experience

Physical Requirements
Ability to remain in a stationary position. Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment including but not limited to phone, printers, copiers, and calculators. Ability to communicate with others and accurately exchange information.
