Job Story
The NIAR Composites & Structures lab is looking for a Non Destructive Inspection Student Assistant.

Job Summary
A student assistant will carry out administrative and technical tasks requested by a supervisor. Depending on the area the student assistant is employed in, they may assist and mentor other students or provide support throughout the campus in various forms.

Job Duties
• Assist with Non-Destructive Inspection (NDI) laboratory operations.
• Prepare, organize, and label test specimens and equipment.
• Support ultrasonic and other NDI testing activities under supervision.
• Maintain laboratory cleanliness and organization.
• Clean and maintain the ultrasonic water tank and surrounding work area.
• Assist with equipment setup, calibration, and routine maintenance.
• Enter and organize test data, files, and documentation.
• Help manage inventory, tools, and laboratory supplies.
• Follow all laboratory safety procedures and standard operating instructions.
• Perform other laboratory-related tasks as assigned.

Required Education
High school diploma or equivalent

Additional Requirements
• Enrolled in Wichita State University Engineering Program
• Major in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering is preferred.
• Must be an undergraduate student with a GPA above 3.0

Additional Information
• Ability to lift and carry materials and equipment up to 50 lbs.
• Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and reaching.
• Ability to climb ladders or step stools when required.

Physical Requirements
Ability to remain in a stationary position.
Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment including but not limited to phone, printers, copiers, and calculators.
Ability to communicate with others and accurately exchange information.
