Job Story
The Scholar Retention Intern will support scholars by collecting data, identifying gaps in student success, and coordinating communication timelines that help students stay on track to persist and graduate. We are seeking a detail‑oriented, compassionate, energetic, and creative intern who can manage small projects, organize outreach cycles, and think outside the box to strengthen scholar engagement.


This intern will help connect scholars to resources, mentors, and success pathways by monitoring retention indicators, coordinating milestone‑based communication, and supporting targeted outreach during key academic periods. Their work ensures scholars receive timely, personalized information and feel supported throughout their academic journey. By blending data‑informed insights with student‑centered communication, the intern will play a meaningful role in helping scholars maintain momentum and progress toward graduation.

Job Summary
A student assistant will carry out administrative and technical tasks requested by a supervisor. Depending on the area the student assistant is employed in, they may assist and mentor other students or provide support throughout the campus in various forms.

Job Duties
- Track scholar engagement data to monitor interactions and retention indicators.
- Identify gaps in scholar success and flag students needing additional support.
- Coordinate communication timelines for continuing‑year scholar outreach.
- Support targeted outreach through email and phone communication.
- Build and write reports that summarize trends and support program improvements.
- Manage small retention projects and adapt strategies to evolving student needs

Required Education
High School diploma or equivalent. Enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours at Wichita State University.

Preferred Qualifications
- Junior, Senior, or Graduate student
- Majors in Social Work, Psychology, Education, Counseling, Public Administration, or related fields
- Strong attention to detail and comfort working with data
- Experience with data tracking or reporting
- Strong communication skills for email, text, and phone outreach
- Ability to manage projects and timelines
- Creative problem‑solver who can think outside the box to engage scholars
- Compassionate and student‑centered in supporting scholar success

Additional Information

Physical Requirements
Ability to remain in a stationary position. Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment including but not limited to phone, printers, copiers, and calculators. Ability to communicate with others and accurately exchange information.
