Job Story

Wichita State University is looking for an Facilities Engineer to join our Facilities Planning team! Are you currently looking for a position that provides a dynamic work environment, variety of projects, and good work/life balance? This may be the perfect fit for you! In this role you will be responsible for leading MEP-focused design and construction projects across campus, managing project schedules and deliverables, reviewing construction documents and schematics, and overseeing building commissioning efforts.

A Professional Engineering License may qualify an applicant for a Senior Facilities Engineer position.

Job Summary

Monitors and/or provides direction to construction, maintenance and repair staff as needed to ensure safe and efficient facility development and operation. Develops, reviews and/or administers new or existing construction plans, specifications, and/or projects. Oversees services and task deliverables of architectural, engineering and related professionals.

Essential Functions

Provides engineering guidance and direction to maintenance and repair staff and/or teams. Develops maintenance, renovation and/or repair projects, ensuring safe and efficient facility operations that meet campus needs and align with engineering standards. May provide design development, plan and specification reviews, contract administration, and/or project management as necessary. Maintains necessary construction records and oversees distribution as appropriate. Designs and/or guides assigned construction and renovation projects and oversees task deliverables of architectural, engineering and/or related professionals. Coordinates contractor activities throughout the construction lifecycle. Oversees the preparation, administration, safety, and completion of construction projects which may include change requests, progress reports, legal authorizations, and/or department coordination.

 

Required Education and Experience:

  • 60 hours of college coursework in Engineering
  • Six (6) years of experience in engineering, facilities management, construction and project management or related field. Every 30 hours of college coursework beyond 60 hours can be substituted for one (1) year of experience, up to 180 hours.

Required License/Certifications/Training:

  • None

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Technical knowledge in mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems
  • Project management skills
  • Analytical problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
  • Experience in design, commissioning or installing of complex mechanical, electrical or plumbing systems.

 

Preferred License/Certifications/Training:

Professional engineering license (PE)

Additional Information:

A Professional Engineering License may qualify an applicant for a Senior Facilities Engineer position.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to use tools, equipment, and technology necessary to do the job. This includes dexterity in instrument manipulation. Ability to inspect work, materials, equipment, and/or supplies and identify any errors, needs, and/or determining factors. Ability to remain in a stationary position. Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment including but not limited to phone, printers, copiers, and calculators. Ability to ascend and descend ladders and/or stairs. Ability to position self for inspection, construction or maintenance of equipment and/or buildings including confined, elevated and loud noise spaces.

Additional Physical Requirement:

Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force to constantly move objects. Light work involves remaining stationary most of the time.
