Job Story
Lifeguards are responsible for ensuring patron safety by monitoring aquatic areas, enforcing facility rules, and preventing accidents. Primary duties include scanning water for distressed swimmers, performing rescues, administering CPR/first aid, and maintaining safety equipment, alongside assisting with water chemistry checks and cleaning.
Job Summary
A student assistant will carry out administrative and technical tasks requested by a supervisor. Depending on the area the student assistant is employed in, they may assist and mentor other students or provide support throughout the campus in various forms.
Job Duties
Surveillance & Prevention: Actively scanning swimming areas to identify potential hazards or danger, preventing accidents before they occur.
Emergency Response: Responding immediately to rescues, which may include assisting distressed swimmers or providing water rescue, artificial respiration, and CPR.
Rule Enforcement: Enforcing safety regulations, facility policies, and water safety rules to patrons in a professional manner.
Facility Maintenance: Inspecting pool equipment, testing chemical levels (pH/chlorine), and cleaning the pool or beach area.
Communication: Reporting to supervisors regarding safety concerns, maintaining accurate accident reports, and working with other staff to ensure a safe environment.
Record Keeping: Completing logs on water tests, attendance, and incident/accident reports.
Required Education
High School diploma or equivalent. Enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours at Wichita State University.
Required Experience

Preferred Qualifications
ARC Lifeguard certification, Ellis Lifeguard certification, YMCA Lifeguard certification
Physical Requirements
Ability to remain in a stationary position. Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment including but not limited to phone, printers, copiers, and calculators. Ability to communicate with others and accurately exchange information.
