Job Summary
The primary function of a graduate teaching assistant (GTA) is to provide direct instruction. GTAs have the latitude to make independent decisions, use judgment and exercise discretion when dealing with student matters. In either case, the main purpose and responsibility of GTAs is to impart knowledge or training to students at Wichita State University.
Job Duties
Assist a faculty member in grading assignments or assessments with an answer key created by the faculty member.
Upload assignments, instructions, materials to Blackboard provided by the faculty member.
Post grades in Blackboard
Transcribe dictated information for the class
Required Education
Bachelor's Degree
Additional Requirements
Enrollment in a Graduate Program: Must be enrolled in a graduate program in education, sociology, psychology, social sciences or a related field.
Required Experience
To be eligible for an assistantship, students must be admitted to a degree program in either full or conditional standing. Students admitted on probation or placed on academic probation following admission may be eligible for assistantship awards under certain circumstances.
Preferred Qualifications
Strong Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential for effectively assisting faculty and interacting with students. Organizational Skills: Strong organizational skills are necessary for managing multiple tasks, prioritizing responsibilities, and meeting deadlines.
Additional Information for Posting
The position will be 20 hours a week for the fall semester with an option to continue in the spring. As a Graduate Teaching Assistant working 20 hours per week, the university will cover 75% of 12 credit hours of tuition for courses numbered 500 and above.
Physical Requirements
Ability to remain in a stationary position. Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment including but not limited to phone, printers, copiers, and calculators. Ability to communicate with others and accurately exchange information.
