Job Story
Students working in the Crash Dynamics Lab will be part of the Advanced Virtual Engineering and Testing group. NIAR’s Crash Laboratory is looking to fill a position focused on calibration of crash dynamic Anthropomorphic Test Devices (ATDs). The position will consist of fully calibrating, certifying, and maintaining nine different types of ATDs as needed to support sled testing operations. The student will also be instrumenting the dummies as required per sled test configuration.
Students will also acquire knowledge of calibration, troubleshooting, and repair of the Crash Dynamics Lab’s equipment through innovative solutions: load cells, accelerometers, and potentiometers. Additionally, students will be learning data analysis, process, and workflow improvements inside the calibration laboratory.
This is a hands-on position, where students will be required to use hand tools 85% of the time for assembly, disassembly and calibration of the crash test dummies.
