Job Story
The Psychology Department at Wichita State University seeks to hire a tenure-track, Assistant Professor in Community Psychology. We are open to all areas of research and community interests but are especially interested in scholars who work with diverse populations or underrepresented groups, or otherwise conduct research that promotes community wellness and social justice. We are also particularly interested in applicants who can teach policy, grant-writing, or graduate-level courses in other Community Psychology competency areas. Applicants should be graduates of a Community Psychology or related Ph.D. program and have a strong record of peer-reviewed publications. Salary range begins at $70,000 and is commensurate with education and experience. The earliest start date would be Fall 2025; however, a later start date (i.e., Spring, or Fall 2026) is acceptable.
The department has three Ph.D. programs in clinical, community, and human factors psychology, as well as a large undergraduate student body. Because the clinical program’s curriculum includes required courses in community psychology, the successful applicant will have a joint appointment as a core faculty member within both programs. The department is research oriented and has an expectation for faculty to seek external funding. Wichita State University is located in Kansas’s largest city and major industrial metropolitan area, with a population of over 750,000. Wichita has a vibrant and growing community, with a diverse school district yet with a modest cost of living and a thriving downtown. Wichita State also has an in-house clinical psychology training clinic that serves the greater Wichita area. Wichita State University encourages applications from applicants with diverse backgrounds and from underrepresented populations.
Wichita State University does not discriminate in its employment practices, educational programs, or activities on the basis of age, ancestry, color, disability, gender expression, gender identity, genetic information, marital status, national origin, political affiliation, pregnancy, race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, or status as a veteran.
Offers of employment are contingent upon completion of a satisfactory criminal background check, as required by Kansas Board of Regents policy.
All employees of Wichita State University are expected to support the WSU vision, mission, and values and to help foster an environment rich in diversity of culture, thoughts, and experience. Candidates for faculty positions should be able to demonstrate the ability to effectively educate and empower a diverse student population.
