WSU is currently looking for an Architect to join our team! Are you currently looking for a position that provides a dynamic work environment, variety of projects, and good work/life balance? In this role you will be responsible for leading design and construction for campus projects, managing project schedules and deliverables, reviewing construction documents and schematics, and creating conceptual designs.
Job Summary
Works closely with senior leadership to plan and implement the architectural design of University facilities.
Essential Functions
• Consults with leadership to determine functional and spatial requirements for new construction or renovations. Prepares information regarding design, specifications, materials, equipment costs, and construction time. Manages project schedules and task deliverables.
• Manages the work of consultants, vendors, external architects, engineers, and equipment suppliers. Ensures consultants comply with design standards.
• Researches, plans, designs, and maintains code and accessibility compliance on building projects. Participates in regulatory surveys
• Reviews technical documents including drawings and specifications for correct implementation of standards and to develop high performance design.
• Manages all small and large capital projects through planning, design, and construction administration phases. Oversees project schedules, communication, and objectives to meet deadlines and ensure project remains within budget allowances.
Required Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in architecture
- Three (3) years of experience in professional architectural practice
Required License/Certifications/Training:
- Licensed architect in the state of Kansas
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Thorough understanding of building codes including ADA compliance
- Ability to use CAD to draft, review building plans, and develop code plans
- Demonstrated construction administration
- Ability to manage multiple projects at a time
- Ability to communicate professionally (both written and verbal communication) with a diverse audience across campus
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple consultants through all aspects of the design and construction process
- Time management skills and the ability to work independently
- Careful attention to detail and thorough in completing tasks
Physical Requirements:
Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment including but not limited to phone, printers, copiers, and calculators. Ability to remain in a stationary position. Ability to position self for inspection, construction or maintenance of equipment and/or buildings including confined, elevated and loud noise spaces. Ability to move, transport, and/or deliver items, supplies, or equipment. Ability to communicate with others and accurately exchange information. Ability to move or traverse across campus, within buildings and offices, and/or across external environments.
Additional Physical Requirement:
Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force to constantly move objects. Light work involves remaining stationary most of the time.
Ability to navigate active job sites with stairs, uneven ground, and non-accessible paths.
