Job Story
The Tech Transfer & Commercialization area is looking for a student intern to help with a variety of different tasks for their Innovation Prairie Program.
Job Summary
A student assistant will carry out administrative and technical tasks requested by a supervisor. Depending on the area the student assistant is employed in, they may assist and mentor other students or provide support throughout the campus in various forms.
Job Duties
Provide general administrative and executive support to the Innovation Prairie Program, including scheduling meetings, managing communications, and organizing project files.
Assist with the coordination of applied learning projects, events, and innovation-related programming across departments and external partners.
Support documentation efforts, including drafting reports, taking meeting notes, preparing presentations, and maintaining tracking systems for project progress.
Conduct background research, data collection, and industry scans to support project planning, outreach, or strategic initiatives.
Manage email communications, document filing, and task prioritization to ensure operational efficiency.
Perform ad hoc tasks and support special initiatives as directed by the Program Manager or leadership team.
Required Education
High school diploma or equivalent
Preferred Qualifications
Must be a currently enrolled Wichita State University student (undergraduate or graduate).
Strong organizational and time management skills; ability to juggle multiple responsibilities effectively.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Professionalism, discretion, and the ability to handle confidential information.
Proficiency with productivity tools, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google Workspace, and project management platforms preferred.
Demonstrated interest or coursework in business, public administration, communications, or related fields is a plus.
A self-starter mindset with attention to detail and a willingness to take initiative.
Flexible availability to work 20 hours per week, including occasional in-person meetings or events.
Additional Information for Posting
This position is primarily sedentary, involving extended periods of sitting and working at a computer.
Must be able to operate a computer, keyboard, mouse, and standard office equipment.
Occasional lifting and carrying of materials or equipment up to 50 pounds may be required for event setup or prototype handling.
May involve walking between campus buildings or traveling to local partner sites for meetings or events.
Must be able to communicate effectively in person, over video calls, and via email or phone.
Position may occasionally require standing or moving around for extended periods during workshops, tours, or presentations.
Physical Requirements
Ability to remain in a stationary position.
Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment, including but not limited to phones, printers, copiers, and calculators.
Ability to communicate with others and accurately exchange information.
