NIAR's Advanced Machining & Prototyping Lab is looking for a student to support the Quality Control team
Job Summary
A student assistant will carry out administrative and technical tasks requested by a supervisor. Depending on the area the student assistant is employed in, they may assist and mentor other students or provide support throughout the campus in various forms.
Job Duties
• Assist in developing, implementing, and monitoring QA processes to ensure compliance with industry standards (AS9100).
• Data Collection & Analysis: Collect and analyze data from inspections, and quality reports to identify trends and recommend improvements.
• Documentation & Reporting: Assist in organizing quality control documents, including NCRs and audit reports, ensuring timely and accurate record-keeping.
• Process Improvement: Work with QA Manager to develop, test, and implement improvements in quality procedures and workflows.
• Cross-Functional Coordination: Collaborate with engineering, production, and QC teams to resolve quality issues and communicate changes in QA procedures.
• Compliance Audits: Support internal and external audit preparations by compiling necessary documents and reviewing QA procedures.
• Other Duties as Assigned: Perform other related duties to support the QA Manager and team.
Required Education
High school diploma or equivalent
Additional Requirements
• Currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student in Industrial Engineering or a related field at Wichita State University.
• Excellent organizational and documentation skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
Preferred:
• Strong analytical skills and experience with data analysis and statistical methods.
• Experience or coursework related to manufacturing, quality control, or process improvement.
- Must have reliable transportation.
Required Experience
• Familiarity with quality standards like AS9100, ISO 9001, or similar.
Skills and Competencies
• Attention to Detail: Ability to identify errors, inconsistencies, and improvement opportunities within data and processes.
• Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills to convey QA issues and changes effectively.
• Problem-Solving: A proactive approach to identifying and addressing quality issues, with critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
• Technical Aptitude: Basic understanding of quality control tools and techniques such as Six Sigma, SPC (Statistical Process Control), and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
Physical Requirements
Ability to remain in a stationary position.
Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment including but not limited to phone, printers, copiers, and calculators.
Ability to communicate with others and accurately exchange information.
