Job Story
WSU Libraries Special Collections is hiring a Graduate Assistant to help with the administration of archival and manuscript collections and basic research tasks.

Job Summary
A Graduate Staff Assistant (GSA) assistants university service and academic units in either non-teaching or non-research activities. Specific duties of the GSA vary widely, depending on the administrative or academic unit to which they are assigned, but should be at a level to make use of their education and abilities.

Job Duties
- Assist with administration of archival and manuscript collections, including organizing and processing unsorted materials.
- Create and update records in the digital collections management system (ArchivesSpace).
- Create scans or other digital reproductions of archival and manuscript material.
- Assist Special Collections patrons, both in person and via phone/email, including performing basic research.
- Reception desk and telephone duties.
- Other duties as needed.

Required Education
Bachelor's degree

Additional Requirements
- Comfort with interacting with the public, both in person and via phone/email.
- Experience with historical research and historical writing.
- Basic personal computer knowledge (e.g. word processors, spreadsheets, email).
- Good communication skills, fluency in written and oral English.
- Ability to lift and carry boxes weighing up to 30 pounds.
- Ability to work independently.
- Comfort with occasional exposure to dust and/or mold.
- Attention to detail.

Required Experience
To be eligible for an assistantship, students must be admitted to a degree program in either full or conditional standing. Students admitted on probation or placed on academic probation following admission may be eligible for assistantship awards under certain circumstances.

Physical Requirements
Ability to remain in a stationary position. Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment including but not limited to phone, printers, copiers, and calculators. Ability to communicate with others and accurately exchange information.
