Job Story
WSU Libraries Special Collections is seeking a student assistant to participate in the development of public exhibits, incorporating historical material from WSU Special Collections and University Archives.
Job Summary
A student assistant will carry out administrative and technical tasks requested by a supervisor. Depending on the area the student assistant is employed in, they may assist and mentor other students or provide support throughout the campus in various forms.
Job Duties
Student will participate in the development of public exhibits, incorporating historical material from WSU Special Collections and University Archives.
Responsibilities will include:
- Researching assigned topics using material from Special Collections and outside sources.
- Writing narratives about assigned topics to be told through exhibit panels and labels.
- Designing layouts for objects and panels in exhibit cases.
- Installing objects and panels in exhibit cases.
- Other duties as needed.
Required Education
High School diploma or equivalent. Enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours at Wichita State University.
Additional Requirements
- Basic personal computer knowledge (e.g. word processors, email).
- Good communication skills, fluency in written and oral English.
- Ability to lift and carry boxes weighing up to 30 pounds.
- Ability to work independently.
- Comfort with occasional exposure to dust and/or mold.
- Attention to detail.
Required Experience
This is specific to each position and department. See additional requirements and preferences.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with historical research and writing is preferred.
- Experience creating exhibits or other visual works is preferred.
Physical Requirements
Ability to remain in a stationary position. Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment including but not limited to phone, printers, copiers, and calculators. Ability to communicate with others and accurately exchange information.
