Job Information

ATLAS – the Advanced Technologies Lab for Aerospace Systems – is a multi-disciplinary manufacturing environment and engineering education program to prepare engineers and educators for the Factory of the Future and to aid the current workforce in seamlessly adapting to advancements in the workplace.

Job Summary

Leads cross-functional teams to plan, test, and report on new processes for areas such as material, fabrication, and assembly. Responsible for the technical, cost, schedule, and quality performance of the Integrated Product Team (“IPT”) products and deliverables. Ensures the technical goals of each research product remain in focus and that the final product and/or report effectively informs the end-user of the effort’s impact.

Essential Functions

Organizes and leads the Integrated Product Team (“IPT”) to plan and execute assigned technical research and industry programs. Provides technical and programmatic direction to the IPT.
Develops integrated schedules, resource plans, and budgets for engineering tasks within a program. Maintains ownership of the technical and engineering operations, cost, schedule, and quality performance of the IPT deliverables.
Analyzes program technical issues with engagement of the IPT, while maintaining the integrity of the technical research and/or industry program. Identifies technical risks, develops mitigation plans, and escalates issues as necessary.
Reports progress and status updates of technical objectives to internal and external partners and/or stakeholders.
Manages with direct and indirect influence and clear communication to a cross-functional team to execute assigned work statement.
Effectively interfaces with internal and external partners for assigned technical research and/or industry programs.
Maintains the ability to defend the project plan, technical risks, research progress, and end goals of the effort.
Serve as the decision-maker or facilitator for resolving technical conflicts or trade studies.
Ensures appropriate staffing and workload balance for engineering teams.
Ensures engineering activities follow and adhere to sponsor’s processes, regulatory requirements, and quality standards and mitigates any areas of non-compliance.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related STEM field; equivalent combination of related education and experience may be substituted for required education and experience

Five (5) years of related technical research or project execution in engineering, aerospace or the military.
Experience planning, coordinating, executing, and reporting the technical, cost, schedule, and quality performance of complex and cross-functional technical projects.
Experience with advanced materials, composite structures, and composite fabrication.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Strong technical foundation in engineering, product development, or a core discipline such as mechanical, electrical, or software engineering.
Deep understanding of product/program lifecycle phases, including concept development, design, integration, verification, and sustainment.
Experience leading cross-functional engineering teams, driving collaboration across disciplines to meet technical and programmatic objectives.
Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex technical information to technical and non-technical audiences.
Ability to manage competing priorities in a dynamic environment while maintaining focus on key program deliverables and milestones.

Physical Requirements

Ability to inspect and/or surveil materials, equipment, reports, and/or incidents and identify any errors, needs and/or determining factors.
Ability to interpret effectively, accurately and impartially, both receptively and expressively.
Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment including but not limited to phone, printers, copiers, and calculators.
Ability to communicate with others and accurately exchange information.
Ability to use tools, equipment, and technology necessary to do the job. This includes dexterity in instrument manipulation.
Ability to move or traverse across campus, within buildings and offices, and/or across external environments.
