Job Story
The NIAR AMP lab at Wichita State University is seeking a highly motivated Student Assistant with a background in Engineering to assist Engineers full-time time creating risk assessments.
Job Summary
A student assistant will carry out administrative and technical tasks requested by a supervisor. Depending on the area in which the student assistant is employed, they may assist and mentor other students or provide support throughout the campus in various forms.
Job Duties
The Engineering Student Assistant in the Machine Shop is responsible for assisting Engineers full-time in creating Risk Assessments, which include analyzing CAD models and drawings to discern any possible risks from an engineering perspective. The student assists and collaborates with the Research/Design Engineer as needed and is tasked with creating Production Routers. This involves communication with the Programming, Operations, and Purchasing teams to gather the necessary information to create and issue Production Routers. This position requires the student to complete tasks promptly to maintain workflow.
Main Tasks, Duties, and Responsibilities
• Analyze CAD models and drawings provided by customers.
• Communicate information between different teams (Programming, Operations, and Purchasing).
• Create Risk Assessments and Production Routers using the ERP system.
• Ensure all relevant files are saved in their respective locations.
• Assist the Engineering Manager/Research-Design Engineer wherever needed.
• Always maintain a respectful working environment.
• Support the engineering team in troubleshooting and resolving any issues related to production and machining processes.
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives within the machine shop
Required Education
High school diploma or equivalent
Additional Requirements
Currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student at Wichita State University.
• Excellent organizational and documentation skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
•Basic understanding of CAD software and engineering drawings.
•Strong communication and teamwork skills.
•Detail-oriented with good problem-solving abilities.
•Ability to manage time effectively and meet deadlines.
Physical Requirements
Ability to remain in a stationary position.
Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment, including but not limited to phones, printers, copiers, and calculators.
Ability to communicate with others and accurately exchange information.
