IDP Specimen Processor - Molecular Diagnostic Lab

Hire Type: Full Time

Pay: Commensurate with experience

Work Schedule: Typically Monday – Friday, 8am – 5pm. Evenings and weekends may be required. Work is required to be performed in-person and on-site.

Export Compliance Requirement: No export control requirement.

Wichita State University’s Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory (MDL), a vital resource during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, is now leveraging its expertise to explore new frontiers. By addressing critical gaps in the health care system, the lab is also offering invaluable hands-on training for students, shaping the future of health care.  We are looking for a Specimen Processor to join our team!

Job Summary

Receives, logs, stores, prepares and transfers biological specimens.

Essential Functions

Documents specimens received by maintaining daily logs and associating records with patient accounts Prepares specimens for diagnostics or other analysis while maintaining positive patient identification Transfers, handles, and stores delicate or hazardous specimens appropriately Maintains supplies needed for performance of tests Assists with data collection or special projects as assigned

Required Education and Experience

High school diploma or equivalent

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Ability to multi-task and think critically
Ability to exude a professional and positive demeanor
Ability to communicate positively and effectively in both written and verbal expression

Physical Requirements

Ability to use tools, equipment, and technology necessary to do the job. This includes dexterity in instrument manipulation.

Ability to inspect work, materials, equipment, and/or supplies and identify any errors, needs, and/or determining factors.

Ability to remain in a stationary position.

Ability to communicate with others and accurately exchange information.

Ability to interpret effectively, accurately and impartially, both receptively and expressively.
