IDP Histology Technician II

Pay: Commensurate with experience

Work Schedule: Typically Monday – Friday, 8am – 5pm. Evenings and weekends may be required. Work is required to be performed in-person and on-site.

Wichita State University’s Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory (MDL), a vital resource during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, is now leveraging its expertise to explore new frontiers. By addressing critical gaps in the health care system, the lab is also offering invaluable hands-on training for students, shaping the future of health care.  We are looking for a Histology Technician II to join our team!

Job Summary

Performs the various tasks required for receiving, processing, and preparing patient tissue specimens for microscopic examination and analysis by the Pathologist. Coordinates daily workflow of tasks and activities in the surgical pathology area with regard to routine and special procedures.

Essential Functions

Performs specimen collection, accessioning and logging routines.
Assists with tissue grossing procedures.
Performs preventive maintenance and quality-control procedures.
Prepares tissues for pathologist review including, but not limited to, processing, embedding, sectioning, and staining.
Contributes to general laboratory functions and institutional needs.
Other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience

High school diploma or equivalent

Five (5) years of related experience

Required License/Certifications/Training

ASCP Certification as a Histotechnician (HT) preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Demonstrated proficiency with critical and independent thinking.
Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work a diverse team and customer base.

Physical Requirements

Ability to use tools, equipment, and technology necessary to do the job. This includes dexterity in instrument manipulation.
Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment including but not limited to phone, printers, copiers, and calculators.
Ability to remain in a stationary position.
Ability to communicate with others and accurately exchange information.
Ability to inspect and/or surveil materials, equipment, reports, and/or incidents and identify any errors, needs and/or determining factors.
