Pay: Commensurate with experience

Work Schedule: Typically, a 40-hour work week. Office hours are 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, Monday – Friday. On-call may be required.

Export Compliance Requirement: This position requires access to EAR or ITAR controlled technologies. Applicants are required to be eligible for employment under U.S. export control laws and must meet the requirement of being a “U.S. Citizen”.

Job Details

The High-Performance Computing operations team is looking for a technician to monitor and maintain our HPC clusters and supporting systems. If you have experience with Linux-based systems, this may be the place for you!

Job Summary

Responsibilities include assistance with the administration, integration, and maintenance of parallel High Performance-Computing clusters (“HPC”). Provides technical assistance and consultation for staff on the use of the high-performance computing platforms.

Essential Functions

Assists with administration, maintenance, and integration of HPC clusters and supporting systems.
Support hardware and software infrastructure to ensure a high-availability HPC environment.
Works with users to assess needs and assists in the implementation of computational solutions.
Installs, configures, and monitors Linux-based systems for optimal performance.
Monitors system utilization and performance metrics to optimize efficiency.
Stays informed of trends in HPC, system administration, and emerging technologies.
Collaborates with vendors and internal partners to support ongoing operations and strategic projects.
Serves on and/or leads projects as needed.
Solves moderately complex problems and tasks independently.

Required Education and Experience

High School Diploma or equivalent required.  Two (2) years of technical support experience in a professional IT environment; every 30 credit hours of relevant coursework can be substituted for one year of related experience.

Required License:

Valid driver's license

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Hands-on experience with Linux system administration (e.g., RHEL, CentOS, etc.).
Ability to troubleshoot hardware and software issues in a multi-user environment.
Experience with servers, storage systems, drives, etc.
Must possess a strong customer-centered philosophy.
Must be able to offer assistance that is adapted to the computer abilities of clients.
Excellent listening, verbal, and written communication skills.
Ability to work with minimal supervision.
Familiarity with HPC cluster environments and batch scheduling systems (e.g., SLURM, PBS).
Working knowledge of related systems.
Professional personal presentation.
Ability to travel to various work sites in the Wichita metro area.

Preferred Qualifications

Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Information Technology & Management Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field preferred.

Physical Requirements

Ability to move or traverse across campus, within buildings and offices, and/or across external environments.
Ability to remain in a stationary position.
Ability to communicate with others and accurately exchange information.
Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment including but not limited to phone, printers, copiers, and calculators.
Ability to travel in a vehicle for distances including but not limited to across city, county, and state.
