GoCreate is looking for employees to work between the hours of 4 pm – 9 pm, Tuesday through Saturday.
GoCreate is a community workspace located on the Innovation Campus at Wichita State University and is open to the public. The staff, students, and mentors at GoCreate provide training and assistance in operating the machinery and equipment in the makerspace. They also develop and lead tours, classes, and programs in areas such as textiles, woodworking, and welding. In addition, GoCreate works collaboratively with partners and departments on campus, allowing students to get hands-on experience with real-world projects. A recent example of this is the collaboration in the build of the Promise Bridge on campus.
Job Summary
A student assistant will carry out administrative and technical tasks requested by a supervisor. Depending on the area the student assistant is employed in, they may assist and mentor other students or provide support throughout the campus in various forms.
Job Duties
A student technician will be trained to carry out technical tasks requested by a supervisor. The tasks include assisting, providing support, and mentoring other students, community members and/or campus partners and departments.
- Operate and assist with equipment in each studio of the makerspace:
• 3D Printers and Scanners
• Design - Mutoh vinyl printer, Canon photo printer, Epilog laser engraver, Boss Laser engraver, MakerBot 3D printers; Software including CorelDRAW, Fusion360, Solidworks, FlexiSign, Microsoft Office and Adobe Suite.
• Electronics – Soldering stations, multimeter, wire cutter, benches, vises, magnifying lamps/lights.
• Finishing - Machines for both ferrous and non-ferrous materials including tool sharpeners, deburr and polishing machine, bench grinder, belt grinder.
• Metals and Welding – 65 Ton Ironworker, water jet, belt drive bench lathe, sheet metal machine.
• Textiles – Large scale quilting machine, commercial sewing, direct-to-garment printing, leatherworks, sewing machines.
• Wood and Foam – Miter saw, planer, scroll saw, frogmill.
- Support operation of makerspace including, but not limited to, answering phones, hosting tours, assisting with memberships, and maintaining inventory control.
- Assist in maintaining the makerspace including picking up trash, pushing in chairs, moving furniture back, dusting, sweeping, mopping, cleaning counters and tables, etc.
Required Education
High school diploma or equivalent
Additional Requirements
Must be 18 years of age

- Experience working with equipment described above.
- Ability to maintain a positive attitude and demonstrate an eagerness to serve guests.
- Ability to multitask and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
- Attention to detail and able to perform light physical activity.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Maintain a neat and professional appearance.
Physical Requirements
Ability to remain in a stationary position.
Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment, including but not limited to phone, printers, copiers, and calculators.
Ability to communicate with others and accurately exchange information.
