We’re seeking a licensed electrician with at least five years of experience in installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical systems. In this role, you’ll help uphold the electrical foundation that keeps our campus running, not just by troubleshooting circuits, but by contributing to the long term strength of our facilities.

You’ll install wiring, conduits, switches, panels, motors, lighting, grounding systems, and specialized components like battery banks, alarm systems, and switchgear. You’ll also diagnose malfunctions, test and align power equipment, interpret technical diagrams, ensure code compliance, and may provide guidance to other team members.

Job Summary

Performs journeyman level electrical work in the installation, maintenance, repair and service of electrical systems, machinery, appliances and other electrical devices.

Essential Functions

Lays out, assembles and installs wiring in University buildings in accordance with blueprints, specifications, established practices and pertinent state and local electrical codes. Sizes and installs conduits, conductors, switches, outlets and junction boxes. Installs disconnects, lights, devices and electrical panels; installs motors, motor control circuits, electrical systems in hazardous locations and transformers; installs battery banks, battery chargers and switch gear; installs intrusion alarm systems and grounding systems in general facilities. Diagnoses and corrects electrical systems and equipment malfunctions; tests, adjusts, sequences, synchronizes and aligns such systems and equipment as AC and DC power supplies, main power control panels, motors, generators, circuit breakers and relay panels. Determines methods and sequence of operations required to locate, design, install, test, repair, and modify electrical systems and equipment by interpreting blueprints, wiring and schematic diagrams and following technical, verbal or written instructions. Inspects completed work to ensure compliance with blueprints, specifications, instructions and applicable federal, state and local codes; directs any rework or modification. May provide technical guidance and direction to other staff. Shovels and removes snow and ice from designated areas such as roofs, sidewalks and entryways as required.

 

Required Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Five (5) years of experience in installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems, fixtures and equipment

Required License/Certifications/Training:

  • Licensed as Journeyman Electrician
  • Valid Driver's License

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of work related agency operations, safety standards and procedures.
  • Ability to understand and follow explicit instructions, both in oral and written form.
  • Ability to work effectively with fellow workers and others.
  • Ability to assist others as needed.
   

Physical Requirements:

Ability to position self for inspection, construction or maintenance of equipment and/or buildings including confined, elevated and loud noise spaces. Ability to use tools, equipment, and technology necessary to do the job. This includes dexterity in instrument manipulation. Ability to move, transport, and/or deliver items, supplies, or equipment. Ability to drive state vehicle. Ability to remove snow and ice from designated areas. Ability to ascend and descend ladders and/or stairs.

Additional Physical Requirement:

Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force to constantly move objects.
