Job Story
The Educational Engagement Student Assistant works as part of the Housing and Residence Life (HRL) staff and will offer help to both the Educational Engagement Assistant Director and Graduate Coordinator. This position is influential in the continued growth and development of the Living Learning Communities and HRL Educational Engagement, student participation and educational development of students. The Student Assistant shall be considered any student staff member who serves as an assistant for the educational engagement programming.

Job Summary
A student assistant will carry out administrative and technical tasks requested by a supervisor. Depending on the area the student assistant is employed in, they may assist and mentor other students or provide support throughout the campus in various forms.

Job Duties
Programming
- Assist in the recruitment of LLC students and be present at required recruitment events.
- Collaborate with Educational Engagement staff to execute programs planned for LLCs that require additional staff support beyond what may be offered.
- Assist the Graduate Coordinator or Associate Director in planning and executing programs.
Administration
- Help with event planning by coordinating logistics such as venue, requesting speakers, setting up events, working events, and cleaning up from events.
- Support department and university events, including staffing and serving as tour guides of residence halls when required.
- Acquire knowledge about Shocker Sync and become skilled in its utilization.
- Know and understand university and developmental expectations related to confidentiality FERPA regarding residents and staff members.
- Attending all required meetings and training.
- Acquire knowledge and become acquainted with educational engagement programs.
Community Development
- Support in the implementation of a resident's engagement model designed to provide an educational and engaging community living experience for residents.
- Assist student staff members and hall leaders in understanding the resident engagement model and teaching best practices for meeting educational goals and learning outcomes.
- Ensure community development efforts are inclusive, socially just, and promote a diverse community.
Communication
- Be a functional member of the staff and work effectively with others.
- Utilize digital communication to ensure that it is appropriate, positive, and done for the betterment of the community.
- Provide accurate information about the HRL and WSU
- Work cooperatively with all university departments.
- Relay important information to those who need it and ask questions when clarification is necessary.
Safety & Security
• Maintain and respect issues of confidentiality. Know when and how to make judgment calls regarding confidentiality with FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act)
• Be familiar with WSU Housing and Residence Life policies and respond to all emergencies defined for the Student Assistant position.
• Know and enforce the policies held within the HRL Handbook and WSU Student Code of Conduct.
• Serve as a mandatory reporter for Title IX and Clery Act concerns.

Required Education
High School diploma or equivalent. Enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours at Wichita State University.

Additional Requirements
1. Student Assistant is expected to continue positive academic processes by:
a. Having a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or greater at the time they apply for the Student Assistant position and at the end of the spring or fall semester prior to the beginning Student position.
b. Receiving a semester GPA of 2.5 or greater as well as maintaining a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or greater. Students who do not achieve these standards will be placed on HRL academic probation for the following semester. Student Assistants below a 2.0 GPA should consult with their supervisors to determine if continued standing as a Student Assistant is in their best interest.
c. HRL academic probation may be used once during any 24-month period. If a Student Assistant returns from academic probation and fails to meet requirements again within twelve months, they will not be permitted to continue in any HRL Position.
2. Student Assistant must be enrolled as a full-time (12 credits or more undergraduate) making academic progress toward graduation. At least three credits per hour must take in person and on campus. Student Assistant who falls below 12 credits in any given semester may be asked to terminate their status as Student Assistant.
3. If a Student Assistant is removed from their position because of GPA requirements, they may re-apply to be a Student Assistant and go through the Student Assistant selection process once their GPA meets the requirements.

Applicants should be aware of the following dates and information which are required of employment:
• Applicants must enroll as a WSU student for the Fall 2025 semester by July 28, 2025.
• Applicants must be in good conduct standing with the university (not on probation) in order to apply for the Student Assistant position. If Student Assistants become not in good standing during employment, they would be asked to leave the position.
• Any position offers are contingent upon the successful completion of a university background check.

Physical Requirements
Ability to remain in a stationary position. Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment including but not limited to phone, printers, copiers, and calculators. Ability to communicate with others and accurately exchange information.
