Pay: Range beginning point $65,000/yr, adjusted based on qualifications

Work Schedule: Mon-Fri, 8a-5p (on call rotation required, evenings & weekends as needed)

Export Compliance Requirement: This position requires access to EAR or ITAR controlled technologies. Applicants are required to be eligible for employment under U.S. export control laws and must meet the requirement of being a “U.S. Citizen”.

Job Summary

Installs, configures, and maintains the server infrastructure and enterprise applications for the University and assist with troubleshooting and resolving technical issues in the server environment.

Essential Functions

Performs daily server administration tasks and participates in a 24/7 on-call support rotation. Monitors, analyzes, and resolves problems associated with the server infrastructure. Provides 2nd/3rd level customer support to identify, explain, and resolve technical issues relating to the server infrastructure. Follows established security protocols and practices to ensure the security of the server infrastructure. Performs research into new technologies or methods to improve the functionality and/or efficiency for the server infrastructure. Assists with performance tuning and configuring high availability in the server infrastructure. Coaches, trains, or mentors less experienced staff members.

Job Duties

  • Build, install, configure, analyze, tune, and troubleshoot operating system in physical and virtual environments.
  • Manage hardware, software, and utilities for installation, modification, troubleshooting, maintenance, and upgrades of server operating systems
  • Evaluate and implement new technologies, and integrate systems into the computing environment.
  • Perform user and group management
  • Manage Microsoft365 and other cloud-based systems
  • Map processes and automate tasks with PowerShell
  • Document systems and processes
  • Participate in 24x7 on-call support rotation

Required Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Two (2) years of experience in desktop or computer administration. Every 60 hours of college coursework can be substituted for one (1) year of experience, not to exceed two (2) years of experience.
  • Two (2) years of experience in server administration, Linux or Windows as appropriate for position

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of Windows server administration.
  • Critical thinking & problem-solving skills to account for downstream effects including areas across the university & integrations already established.
  • Time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Professional communication skills to actively listen, identify specifics & create optimal as well as alternative solutions.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Window Servers
  • Microsoft 365 Administration
  • VMWare Administration
  • Active Directory Administration

Physical Requirements:

Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment including but not limited to phone, printers, copiers, and calculators. Ability to communicate with others and accurately exchange information. Ability to remain in a stationary position. Ability to position self for inspection, construction or maintenance of equipment and/or buildings including confined, elevated and loud noise spaces. Ability to move, transport, and/or deliver items, supplies, or equipment.
