Successful candidates will have previously served college students and/or understand the world of higher education, being able to thrive in an ever-changing environment with high expectations. You’ll provide clear, supportive pathways for students to tackle their challenges and succeed. You’ll facilitate activities and community management for specific populations, handle referrals from faculty through our early alert system, and work closely with students on time management, accountability, and responsibility. For students in danger of not succeeding, you’ll be their go-to person, reaching out via phone and email.

Job Summary

Conducts outreach campaigns, counsels with college(s), and advises diverse, "at-risk" student populations regarding their academic plans, progress, and academic and career goals in order to assist students in making personal education decisions and meeting graduation requirements. Provides risk assessments and interprets student needs for assigned areas. Provides individualized service and assistance while maintaining confidentiality while focusing on student success.

Essential Functions

Provides student support with life skills development, identification and elimination of retention barriers and academic programs. Facilitates connections with campus and community services and resources when needed. Provides support to assigned academic college(s) and faculty on program-specific strategic enrollment management and retention goals and initiatives. Identifies specific student populations, conducts outreach campaigns and supports campus-wide retention initiatives.

Job Duties

  • Successfully complete outreach to students in danger of not succeeding academically or persisting in college through email, text messaging and phone calling.
  • Complete one-on-one appointments with students in person and/or virtually who struggle academically or personally.
  • Create presentations and professionally present to groups or classes on topics such as time management, study skills, motivation, accountability, etc.
  • Successfully manage multiple outreach campaigns, presentations, and meetings while meeting expectations and benchmarks.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in related field
  • Two (2) years of experience in graduate or professional advising or counseling experience with college students or related field

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to relate to or understand college students who struggle academically.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective, professional working relationships.
  • Creativity in developing new initiatives and enhancing existing initiatives in higher education.
  • Knowledge of best practices in academic success strategies in higher education.
  • Ability to work with technology to produce outreach campaigns, track progress, and organize data.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in higher education, counseling, or related field.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to remain in a stationary position. Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment including but not limited to phone, printers, copiers, and calculators. Ability to communicate with others and accurately exchange information. Ability to move or traverse across campus, within buildings and offices, and/or across external environments.
