Job Story
Join the GEEKs Tutoring Center as a peer tutor and help College of Engineering students achieve academic success. Tutors provide course-specific academic support while creating a welcoming and collaborative learning environment that promotes student persistence, confidence, and engagement.

Job Summary
A student assistant will carry out administrative and technical tasks requested by a supervisor. Depending on the area the student assistant is employed in, they may assist and mentor other students or provide support throughout the campus in various forms.

Job Duties
• Provide one-on-one and small-group tutoring for College of Engineering courses.
• Assist students in developing effective study strategies and problem-solving skills.
• Maintain accurate tutoring records and complete required documentation.
• Foster a welcoming, inclusive, and professional learning environment.
• Collaborate with GEEKs staff and participate in required training and meetings.
• Refer students to additional campus resources when appropriate.

Required Education
High School diploma or equivalent. Enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours at Wichita State University.

Additional Requirements
MUST BE WORK-STUDY ELIGIBLE.
• Must be enrolled as a Wichita State University and College of Engineering student.
• Must have successfully completed the courses they will tutor with strong academic performance.
• Maintain good academic standing.
• Demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
• Ability to work scheduled shifts throughout the semester.

Required Experience
This is specific to each position and department. See additional requirements and preferences.

Preferred Qualifications
• Previous tutoring, mentoring, teaching assistant, or peer leadership experience.
• Strong organizational and time management skills.
• Demonstrated commitment to helping fellow students succeed.


Physical Requirements
Ability to remain in a stationary position. Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment including but not limited to phone, printers, copiers, and calculators. Ability to communicate with others and accurately exchange information.
