Pay: Range begins at $70,000 and is commensurate with experience

Job Story

Alce su Voz is a community-engaged program in Wichita State’s Department of Modern and Classical Languages and Literatures that focuses on health equity for speakers of Spanish and Indigenous languages in Kansas. Alce su Voz seeks a proactive and highly organized team member who is passionate about language and health equity to serve as program manager for its healthcare language access and pandemic oral history programs.

• Collaborates with PI Dr. Rachel Showstack to develop program goals and infrastructure to align with defined initiative strategy. Creates new or troubleshoots and improves upon existing processes, procedures or systems to meet program goals.
• Manages programs through creation of program plans, management tools and reporting capabilities. Performs project research and develops plans to effectively use program resources. Uses metrics to measure program success against program goals.
• Ensures resources are appropriately assigned for community engagement events and oral history interviews to meet program goals. Creates strategic partnerships with new community partners and or cultivates existing partnerships.
• Recommends program or project budget according to needs based on customer and/or leadership consultation. Monitors and adjusts project and program plans as resource requirements change.
• Communicates and documents program quality outcomes and progress metrics to the PI, project leads, community partners, advisory board and the community stakeholders (language and literacy level of communication will depend on the audience).
• Addresses and resolves major or complex issues to ensure program goals remain on track.
• Communicates regularly with team leaders, partners, and other departments at the university through meetings and emails to ensure program deliverables are met in a timely manner and problems are addressed
• Participates in conversations about the organization and future direction of the program

Job Summary

Manages assigned public service, environmental finance, environmental, or social service program(s) to meet Center objectives. May develop and implement program plans. Oversees the day-to-day program, initiative and/or Center activities including project schedules, budget tracking and development, and project and/or program administration.

Essential Functions

Performs project research and develops plans to effectively use program, initiative and/or Center resources. Develops metrics to measure program success against program goals. Manages, trains and leads cross-functional teams and/or agency partnerships and ensures resources are appropriately assigned to meet program, initiative and/or Center goals. Creates strategic partnerships with new or cultivates existing customers. Recommends program or project budget according to needs based on customer and/or leadership consultation. Monitors and adjusts project and program plans as resource requirements change. Communicates and documents program, initiative and/or Center quality outcomes and progress metrics to senior leader and/or customers. Addresses and resolves major or complex issues to ensure program, initiative and/or Center goals remain on track.

Job Duties

The program manager will manage the healthcare language access and pandemic oral history projects of Wichita State’s community-based coalition Alce su voz (‘Speak Out’). They will work with the director, Dr. Rachel Showstack, to develop and implement the project work plan and will oversee the day-to-day program activities including project schedules, budget tracking and development, and project administration. The Program Manager will also manage personnel, including the community partners, health educators, community liaisons, interpreters, and university students who will collaborate to meet the objectives of the language access and pandemic oral history initiatives.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in any field
  • Two (2) years of experience in applicable program management or related field

Required License/Certifications/Training:

None

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Professional writing skills in English
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Excellent communication skills, including listening skills
  • Basic computer skills
  • Ability to manage personnel

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Spanish, Public Health, Community Psychology, Social Work, or another relevant field
  • Experience that demonstrates a strong connection with Latine communities in Sedgwick County
  • Experience that demonstrates a strong connection with Latine and/or Indigenous communities in Cowley and Montgomery Counties
  • Experience that demonstrates understanding of the challenges in the field of Spanish and Latino Health Equity
  • Demonstrated background in community organizing or community-based participatory research
  • Experience with the fields of interpreting, public health, and/or healthcare
  • Demonstrated Spanish-language communication skills
 

Physical Requirements:

Ability to remain in a stationary position. Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment including but not limited to phone, printers, copiers, and calculators. Ability to communicate with others and accurately exchange information.
