Job Summary
A student assistant will carry out administrative and technical tasks requested by a supervisor. Depending on the area the student assistant is employed in, they may assist and mentor other students or provide support throughout the campus in various forms.

Job Duties
1. Attending all peer mentoring training sessions at the beginning of each semester.
2. Checking and responding to your email on a regular basis.
3. Providing weekly mentoring to students assigned to you.
4. Assisting in the development of positive study habits, study skills, and life skills of mentored students.
5. Providing regular feedback to the Learning Skills Coordinator/Academic Advisor on your student’s mentoring progress.
6. Completing and submitting your assessments and time sheets electronically by the due date as required. (If you do not submit any assessments required and/or do not submit your hours worked in a timely manner, there is no guarantee that you will be paid retroactively).
7. Continuously improving the quality of the mentoring process.
8. Actively participating in related activities of the peer mentoring component to achieve the objectives and goals of Student Support Services.

Required Education
High School diploma or equivalent. Enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours at Wichita State University.

Additional Requirements
● High school diploma or equivalent.
● Enrolled as a sophomore, junior, senior, or graduate student at Wichita State University.
● Has a cumulative 3.0 GPA or better.

Required Experience
This is specific to each position and department. See additional requirements and preferences.

Preferred Qualifications
● Trained in or has experience with the techniques and goals of mentoring relationships.
● Good communication skills and ability to establish positive relationships.
● A demonstrated sensitivity to the needs of first-generation, limited-income, and students of disability status.
● A strong commitment to the project’s mission of serving disadvantaged students.

Physical Requirements
Ability to remain in a stationary position. Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment including but not limited to phone, printers, copiers, and calculators. Ability to communicate with others and accurately exchange information.
