Job Story
The Overnight Office Assistant is a student staff member of Housing and Residence Life who serves as a vital member of our team, providing staffing for the front desk as well as completing a variety of administrative tasks.
Job Summary
A student assistant will carry out administrative and technical tasks requested by a supervisor. Depending on the area the student assistant is employed in, they may assist and mentor other students or provide support throughout the campus in various forms.
Job Duties
* Provide assistance to residents with room lockouts
* Issue mail and check-out resources to residents
* Assist in the check-in and check-out processes for the department
* Maintain awareness of building security and respond to incidents according to established guidelines
* Understand and utilize necessary programs such as StarRez, Salto, and Teams
* Check mail receiving and sorting for accuracy, following established processes and informing a supervisor when issues arise
* Welcome, assist, and interact with residents and guests to the residence hall communities in a positiveand professional manner
* Maintain and respect issues of confidentiality. Know when and how to make judgment calls regardingconfidentiality in accordance with FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act)
* Be familiar with WSU Housing and Residence Life policies, and be able to respond to all emergency situations as defined for the OA position
* Know and enforce the policies held within the HRL Handbook, Overnight Desk Manual and WSU StudentCode of Conduct
* Perform all other duties as assigned by supervisor
Required Education
High School diploma or equivalent. Enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours at Wichita State University.
Additional Requirements
* Must have 6 months customer-service related experience
* Having a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or greater at the time they apply for a Residence Life student staffposition and at the end of the semester immediately preceding the beginning of their employment withHRL.
* OAs must be enrolled as a full-time student (12 credits or more undergraduate and 9 hours graduate)and making academic progress toward graduation. At least 3 credits per semester must be taken inperson and on campus (summer term may be an exception).

Physical Requirements
Ability to remain in a stationary position. Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment including but not limited to phone, printers, copiers, and calculators. Ability to communicate with others and accurately exchange information.
