Work Schedule: Typically, 8 hour shifts, Monday – Friday. Additional hours, including work on weekends, may be required for business needs. Work is performed onsite and in-person.
Export Compliance Requirement: This position requires access to EAR or ITAR controlled technologies. Applicants are required to be eligible for employment under U.S. export control laws and must meet the requirement of being a “U.S. Citizen”.
Job Details
The NIAR Environmental Test Lab is seeking an electrical test engineer with a strong understanding of commercial and military EMI/EMC test standards, specifically RTCA DO-160 and MIL-STD 461 test standards. The candidate should have experience performing radiated/conducted emissions and susceptibility testing in both anechoic and reverberation chamber. The candidate should also have experience performing indirect effects of lightning testing per DO-160G Section 22 and MIL-STD 461 CS117. Strong communication skills to both external and internal customers, and attention to details is a must.

Performs testing per applicable regulations, standards and/or approved methods. Independently interprets, organizes, executes, and coordinates assignments. Provides support of facility and equipment maintenance and new capability development. Assists with development of design, budgets, quotes, and/or schedule for projects.

Takes detailed test notes, photos, and data captures; interprets test results, authors technical summaries of test results, and creates detailed test reports.
Complies with applicable quality management system policies, industry standards, and standard operating procedures.
Assists with laboratory research projects.
Required Education and Experience
Associate's degree in engineering or related STEM field
Five (5) years of related experience in the relevant field of engineering. A bachelor’s degree in engineering or related STEM field with three (3) years of required experience may be substituted.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to perform EMI/EMC testing per DO-160, MIL-STD 461 and other recognized testing standards or approved methods.
Strong communication skills to collaborate with internal and external customers. Ability to review and understand test requirements.
Ability to take detailed test notes, photos, and data captures, interpret test results, author technical summaries of test results, and create detailed test reports.
Proficient in Microsoft 365 products
Ability to travel occasionally (approximately 15% of the time), sometimes outside of the United States, for up to 3 weeks at a time.
Preferred Qualifications
Five (5) years of experience with EMI/EMC and/or direct/indirect effects of lightning testing per RTCA DO-160 or MIL-STD 461 test standards and in the use of electronics test equipment (e.g. spectrum/signal analyzers, signal generators, oscilloscopes, network analyzers, etc.).
Preferred License/Certifications/Training
iNARTE EMC Engineer certification preferred
Physical Requirements
Ability to communicate with others and accurately exchange information.
Ability to remain in a stationary position.
Ability to position self for inspection, construction or maintenance of equipment and/or buildings including confined, elevated and loud noise spaces.
Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment including but not limited to phone, printers, copiers, and calculators.
Ability to move or traverse across campus, within buildings and offices, and/or across external environments.
Ability to use tools, equipment, and technology necessary to do the job. This includes dexterity in instrument manipulation.
Ability to interpret effectively, accurately and impartially, both receptively and expressively.
