Job Story
The NIAR ATLAS lab is seeking a student assistant to assist with mechanical testing.

Job Summary
A student assistant will carry out administrative and technical tasks requested by a supervisor. Depending on the area the student assistant is employed in, they may assist and mentor other students or provide support throughout the campus in various forms.

Job Duties
The student will work with experienced engineers in the field of material and structural evaluation of composite structures. Contribute to all aspects of mechanical testing of advanced materials. Student employees will be exposed to theories of mechanics of materials, advanced instrumentation techniques, Mechanical testing, data reduction, and reporting aspects involved in projects funded by industry and federal agencies. Utilize MTS load frames and structural setups to perform static and cyclic testing on composite and non-composite materials.
Work with advanced software (Multi-Purpose Testware (MPT), Profile Editor, AeroPro) to develop constant amplitude and spectrum load profiles for structural evaluation.
Design and fabricate fixtures for testing applications.
Utilize specialized equipment such as Digital Image Correlation (DIC), LUNA, Modal Analysis, and Acoustic Emission.
Conduct data reduction and reporting to analyze test results.

Required Education
High school diploma or equivalent

Job Requirements
Undergraduate or graduate students in Aerospace Engineering or Mechanical Engineering
Ability to work a minimum of 15-20 hours per week
Minimum of 2 years until graduation
Design experience
Fabrication experience
Statics/Mechanics or Materials
Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and supervisors.

Physical Requirements
Ability to remain in a stationary position.
Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment, including but not limited to phones, printers, copiers, and calculators.
Ability to communicate with others and accurately exchange information.
