NIAR Aircraft Technician III - 1st Shift

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday; 6:30 am - 3:00 pm

Export Compliance Requirement: This position requires access to EAR or ITAR controlled technologies. Applicants are required to be eligible for employment under U.S. export control laws and must meet the requirement of being a "U.S. Person”.

Job Story

In a hangar adjacent to McConnell AFB that once housed Boeing Air Force One modification facilities, the MRO team at NIAR provides production design, initial and Supplemental Type Certification, instrumentation installation, modifications and field support/repair. We are looking for an Aircraft Technician to join our team!

Job Summary

Performs functional testing, troubleshooting, and/or repair of aircraft mechanical systems. Prepares aircraft for flight test and airworthiness certification. May include maintenance, sheet metal, and/or avionics work.

Essential Functions

Performs all mechanical functional tests (FTs); troubleshoots and repairs aircraft discrepancies prior to and after functional tests have been conducted; installs, rigs, and/or repairs flight control systems. Realigns cabin, aft cabin, and emergency doors to pass engineering specifications and functional tests with minimal supervision, Performs preliminary inspection of aircraft prior to test flight in accordance with preflight checklists to ensure airworthiness; complies with specific pilot requirements in preparation for aircraft flights and successfully launch aircraft for flight. Prepares aircraft for flight functional tests and reviews aircraft log book to log book to identify deficiencies and the status of aircraft readiness with minimal supervision. Recovers aircraft from flight and troubleshoot post-flight discrepancies; prepares aircraft for airworthiness post-flight inspection; troubleshoots and repairs discrepancies identified from airworthiness inspection, and taxis aircraft to designated locations including using and crossing active runways. Accompanies pilots during flights to troubleshoot and repair in-flight discrepancies with minimal supervision.

Required Education and Experience

High school diploma or equivalent

Four (4) years of related experience. Every 30 hours of related college coursework can be substituted for one (1) year of experience.

Required License/Certifications/Training

Airframe and Powerplant certification required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Ability to perform tasks with minimal supervision.
Ability to read, understand, and interpret engineering drawings.
Proficient knowledge of repair station system, flight-line ground safety procedures, and ground support equipment.
Proficient knowledge of Material Review Board (MRB).
Proficient knowledge of flight control repair procedures.
Proficient knowledge of safety and operating procedures for power-on aircraft, and of all current aircraft models in production flight.
Demonstrated sheet metal skills necessary to maintain the skin quality of the aircraft.
Ability to perform advanced troubleshooting and repair of aircraft systems.
Ability to perform flight control repair.
Ability to conduct preliminary inspection of aircraft prior to test flight to ensure airworthiness of aircraft.
Proficiency in use of conventional and portable power tools.
Proficient knowledge of airport airfield markings and procedures.

Physical Requirements

Ability to position self for inspection, construction or maintenance of equipment and/or buildings including confined, elevated and loud noise spaces. Ability to position self to clean designated areas, equipment and items. This includes but is not limited to the ability to clean in confined, elevated, and loud noise spaces. Ability to interpret effectively, accurately and impartially, both receptively and expressively. Ability to remain in a stationary position. Ability to use tools, equipment, and technology necessary to do the job. This includes dexterity in instrument manipulation. Ability to communicate with others and accurately exchange information.
