Job Story
Join the College of Engineering Student Success Center and help create meaningful experiences that connect students to the college and campus community. The Student Engineering Student Success Center will supports planning and executing programs, events, outreach, and engagement initiatives while gaining hands-on experience in event planning, marketing, social media, communication, and program administration.

Job Summary
A student assistant will carry out administrative and technical tasks requested by a supervisor. Depending on the area the student assistant is employed in, they may assist and mentor other students or provide support throughout the campus in various forms.

Job Duties
• Assist with the planning, preparation, and execution of student engagement and recruitment programs, events, and initiatives.
• Prepare, organize, and maintain materials and supplies for programs and events.
• Assist with event setup, check-in, activities, cleanup, and other event-day responsibilities.
• Help create and distribute social media, marketing and promotional materials.
• Assist with social media content creation, including graphics, photos, captions, and promotional content.
• Assist with student outreach and communication regarding programs, events, and involvement opportunities.
• Maintain program calendars, participation records, sign-up forms, spreadsheets, and other organizational materials.
• Complete administrative tasks including data entry, printing, copying, organizing files, and preparing materials.
• Collaborate with Student Engagement Staff and Recruitment Staff , student employees, campus partners, and student organizations.
• Represent the College of Engineering in a welcoming, professional, and student-centered manner.

Required Education
High School diploma or equivalent. Enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours at Wichita State University.

Additional Requirements
Must be currently enrolled as a Wichita State University student.
Must be eligible for Federal Work-Study
Minimum GPA of 2.5
Availability to work 10–30 hours per week between Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM

Demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Strong organizational and time-management skills.
Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
Dependable and willing to take initiative when appropriate.
Comfortable using Microsoft Office programs, including Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Willingness to learn new programs, systems, and technology.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
Availability to assist with occasional events outside of regular business hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed.

Required Experience
This is specific to each position and department. See additional requirements and preferences.

Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience with event planning, student organizations, campus involvement, customer service, social media, marketing, or social media.
Experience using Canva or other graphic design platforms.
Experience creating content for Instagram or other social media platforms.
Strong written communication skills.
Experience working collaboratively on projects or events.
Interest in student engagement, leadership development, marketing, communications, event management, or higher education.
Familiarity with Wichita State University programs, resources, and campus life.
Creative problem-solving skills and willingness to contribute new ideas.


Physical Requirements
Ability to remain in a stationary position. Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment including but not limited to phone, printers, copiers, and calculators. Ability to communicate with others and accurately exchange information.
