We’re seeking a data-driven, detail-oriented, student advocate, number storyteller to join the TRIO Student Support Services team!

You’ll be the person who keeps our program running with clarity, accuracy, and efficiency. Compile, manage, interpret data, develop internal reports, and assist in completing required annual reports. Guide students through academic milestones and help create experiences for students that support retention and success. Your work behind the scenes will directly impact the students we serve each day.

Job Summary

Advises students concerning their academic plans, progress, and academic and career goals in order to assist students in making personal education decisions and meeting graduation requirements. Interprets student needs and provides individualized education, services and instruction. Conducts data needs assessments, evaluations and analyses. Compiles, organizes and reports statistical data.

Essential Functions

Provides students with information on how to complete their college degree and refers students to appropriate campus and community services and resources when needed. Ensures accurate and timely data entry. Cleans data as needed. Provides recommendations to improve data collection and analysis. Responds to information requests, reviews data reporting requirements, and assists with required annual reports. Provides postsecondary services and education to students and their families through individual and group study sessions, and workshops related to college test preparation, admissions, financial aid and/or career readiness. Coordinates and administers campus visits.

Job Duties

  • Provide comprehensive academic advising to SSS participants in the areas of academic planning, career development, goal setting, graduate school preparation, and financial literacy.
  • Manage and maintain program database to ensure accuracy, integrity, and compliance with federal and institutional report requirements.
  • Compile, analyze, and present data and program reports to support evaluation of program services, and strategic program decisions.
  • Assist in the development and facilitation of workshops, events, recruitment of new SSS participants, assessments, manuals, and retention-focused student activities that promote persistence, participation, and student success.
  • Collaborate with campus partners to expand opportunities for program participants.
  • Participate in the recruitment, training, and supervision of student assistants and maintain effective working relationships across campus and community stakeholders.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in related field
  • Two (2) years of experience in academic advising or related field

Required License/Certifications/Training:

None

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Knowledge and experience in data management
• Ability to compile, organize and present statistical data and project, and annual reports
• Ability to collaborate with in-demand industry human resource personnel
• Ability to offer financial literacy and economic education to SSS-participants
• Experience in developing manuals, conducting evaluations, assessments and cohort studies
• Knowledge and experience in providing academic, graduate school, career and financial aid advising
• Experience in conducting workshops
• Knowledge and experience with the challenges that face low-income, first-generation and individuals with disabilities who are struggling academically
• Experience in developing student activities that promote student retention and foster a climate that is supportive of student success
• Ability to recruit, train, select and supervise student assistants
• Experience working with TRIO Programs or other similar projects
• Experience in interpreting and complying with federal regulations
• Strong organizational, oral and communication skills
• Ability and willingness to work irregular and flexible hours
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships

Preferred Qualifications:

  • This is a grant funded position. A condition of the grant requires Database Specialist & Academic Advisor candidates to possess a bachelor's degree in counseling, higher education, business, social science, or related field, with at least two (2) years of experience in data management.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, counseling, higher education, business, or related field.

 

Additional Information:

This is a grant funded position. A condition of the grant requires Database Specialist & Academic Advisor candidates to possess a bachelor's degree in counseling, higher education, business, social science, or related field, with at least two (2) years of experience in data management.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to remain in a stationary position. Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment including but not limited to phone, printers, copiers, and calculators. Ability to communicate with others and accurately exchange information.
