Job Story
The Costumes & Wardrobe Specialist is a hybrid role that bridges costume construction and backstage wardrobe operations. This position supports the costume shop and students in the creation and alteration of costumes, while also leading the wardrobe crew in the care, maintenance, and performance support of costumes during productions. The Specialist ensures seamless communication between the costume shop interns and production personnel for the core school productions (1 musical, 1 dance concert, 1 play) and supervises student intern stitchers and wardrobe crew when applicable.
Job Duties
Costume Shop Responsibilities:
• Assist costume faculty and shop interns with fittings, cutting, pattern making, stitching, and alterations.
• Prepare work for student interns and advise on construction techniques.
• Complete hand and finish work as assigned.
• Assist in the repair and preparation of costumes.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe costume shop environment.
Wardrobe Responsibilities:
• Lead wardrobe crew in pre-show setup, post-show cleanup, and repairs.
• Review costumes before each performance and ensure appropriate placement.
• Oversee the maintenance of show costumes, including laundry and ongoing repairs.
• Attend fittings and rehearsals as needed.
• Generate necessary paperwork for wardrobe operations.
• Plan, choreograph, and rehearse quick changes.
• Assist with costume load-in and strike.

Additional Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
• Undergraduate degree in theatre design/technology or related field of study
• Minimum 3 years of experience in theatrical costume construction and/or backstage wardrobe work preferred.
• Strong knowledge of costume techniques, materials, and fabric types.
• Ability to lead and delegate within a team environment.
• Excellent communication, organization, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
• Professional demeanor when working with students and production staff.
• Willingness to learn and adapt to new techniques and methods.
