Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm, some nights and weekends required. Some overnight travel will be required as well.

We are seeking a dynamic Coordinator of Student Governance to join our team and make an immediate impact at Wichita State University. Reporting to the Executive Director of Student Engagement & Belonging, this pivotal role is dedicated to fostering leadership, amplifying the student voice, and ensuring meaningful engagement across campus. As the Coordinator of Student Governance, you will:
• Empower Student Leaders by serving as an advisor to the Student Government Association (SGA), working closely with elected and appointed representatives to develop leadership skills, navigate governance structures, and achieve their goals.
• Facilitate Shared Governance by collaborating with university administrators and stakeholders to amplify the student perspective in decision-making processes and promote a culture of inclusivity and partnership.
• Enhance Campus Engagement by supporting innovative programs, initiatives, and policies that inspire students to take an active role in shaping their campus community.
• Manage the Shocker Support Locker, a critical resource for students facing food and resource insecurity, ensuring it is accessible, well-maintained, and responsive to student needs.

Job Summary
Develops, implements, and executes programs and services to meet the needs of students. Responsible for programming, recruitment and/or retention of students, training, partners with other University resources, and serves as a resource for all students, faculty, staff, alumni, and guests.
Essential Functions
Plans, coordinates, executes and assesses programs and other related events in conjunction with student organizations, other University departments, and community partners. Plans, coordinates, executes and assesses trainings, in conjunction with student organizations, other University departments, and community partners. May serve as a resource, consultant and liaison to the campus community on student issues. In collaboration with leadership, regularly assesses all programs and services the office provides for effectiveness as well as assist in daily administration. May support the programs by performing responsibilities which may include creating and maintaining databases and websites, monitoring, facilitating, and enforcing compliance with established criteria, guidelines and standards, etc. May provide ongoing monitoring and tracking of program budgets.
Job Duties
Reporting to the Executive Director of Student Engagement & Belonging, the Coordinator of Student Governance serves on the advising team for the Student Government Association (SGA), working closely with elected and appointed student leaders to enhance leadership development, ensure effective organizational management, and uphold university policies and governing documents. This individual will also collaborate with campus stakeholders to support shared governance, provide meaningful student engagement opportunities, and help amplify the student voice in university decision-making processes. This position will also oversee the Shocker Support Locker.
• Serve on the advising team to the Student Government Association (SGA), guiding student leaders in areas such as leadership development, parliamentary procedures, and policy interpretation
• Attend meetings of SGA Executive, Legislative, Judicial, or affiliated organizations.
• Assist SGA with internal operations, audit and budget process, recruitment, strategic planning, purchasing and annual trainings
• Mentor student leaders in areas such as communication, advocacy, conflict resolution, and event management
• Coordinate logistics for SGA meetings, elections, and major initiatives, ensuring operational efficiency
• Supports the work of student government officials in representing students and developing student success programs and initiatives, in collaboration with other departments
• Coordinate and oversee the Shocker Support Locker and other programs developed by SGA.
Required Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in related field
- One (1) year of experience in student programming or related field. Every 15 hours of graduate college coursework beyond a bachelor's degree can be substituted for one (1) year of experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- College student and leadership development theory and practice
- Ability to organize information/tasks in an efficient manner, attention to detail, meet established deadlines and ability to make accurate decisions
- Strong communication skills including communicating effectively in written, electronic, and verbal formats; keeping others informed of news, procedures, etc
- Understanding of parliamentary procedure
Preferred Qualifications:
- 1-2 years’ experience in developing, managing, overseeing and advising student organizations or Student Government involvement
- Experience managing budgets, publicity and marketing, leadership training, student development, etc
Physical Requirements:
Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment including but not limited to phone, printers, copiers, and calculators. Ability to communicate with others and accurately exchange information. Ability to remain in a stationary position. Ability to move, transport, and/or deliver items, supplies, or equipment. Ability to move or traverse across campus, within buildings and offices, and/or across external environments.
Additional Physical Requirement:
Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force to constantly move objects.
