Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm, some nights and weekends required. Some overnight travel will be required as well.

As the Coordinator of Student Activities, you’ll be at the heart of student engagement and leadership development, providing strategic guidance to the Student Activities Council (SAC). You’ll mentor student leaders, helping them excel in their roles and ensuring the successful execution of events that make a lasting impact on campus.

• Champion Campus Engagement: Play a critical role in organizing and supporting staff-led campus-wide programs that bring the entire university community together.
• Advise and Empower: Work closely with SAC chairpersons to guide their leadership journey, ensuring they have the skills, resources, and support they need to thrive.
• Drive Event Success: Oversee the planning, promotion, and execution of major campus events, providing direction for everything from event logistics to publicity and evaluation.
• Foster Leadership Development: Apply leadership and student development theories to ensure SAC programs provide meaningful learning outcomes for student leaders and participants.
• Build Community: Support membership recruitment and retention strategies that enhance student involvement and engagement across campus.

Job Summary
Develops, implements, and executes programs and services to meet the needs of students. Responsible for programming, recruitment and/or retention of students, training, partners with other University resources, and serves as a resource for all students, faculty, staff, alumni, and guests.
Essential Functions
Plans, coordinates, executes and assesses programs and other related events in conjunction with student organizations, other University departments, and community partners. Plans, coordinates, executes and assesses trainings, in conjunction with student organizations, other University departments, and community partners. May serve as a resource, consultant and liaison to the campus community on student issues. In collaboration with leadership, regularly assesses all programs and services the office provides for effectiveness as well as assist in daily administration. May support the programs by performing responsibilities which may include creating and maintaining databases and websites, monitoring, facilitating, and enforcing compliance with established criteria, guidelines and standards, etc. May provide ongoing monitoring and tracking of program budgets.
Job Duties
Reporting to the Associate Director of Student Engagement & Belonging, the Coordinator of Student Activities plays an essential role in creating a vibrant campus culture through the creation of meaningful student experiences. The Coordinator of Student Activities is charged with the planning and execution of large-scale campus events, supporting long-standing traditions, and serves as a co-advisor to the Student Activities Council (SAC). As an advisor, the coordinator provides strategic guidance for the organization’s operation, student leader development, and sets standards for programming excellence. The Coordinator regularly performs duties in and provides direction and oversight for event planning, budget management, assessment, promotion, publicity, and membership recruitment and retention efforts.
• Plans, coordinates, executes, and assesses programs and other related initiatives to provide large-scale engagement experiences to students, other University departments, and community partners
• Provide support to long-standing traditions like Shocktoberfest, Wichita State’s Homecoming + Family Weekend
• Co-Advise the Student Activities Council, its committees and provide direction to 3-4 students leaders of the SAC Executive Board
• Provide direction and opportunities for growth to the Student Activities Council and its members in the areas of recruitment, retention, marketing and program management.
• Provide direction in the planning, execution and evaluation of Student Activities Council sponsored programs and events.
• Develop, implement and facilitate leadership training workshops for the Student Activities Council and members.
• Prepare and oversee the budgets for areas of oversight.
• Oversee the evaluation and assessment of student growth through the use of intentional learning outcomes
• Attend meetings and events of the Student Activities Council programming committees, executive board and student officer team.
Required Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in related field
- One (1) year of experience in student programming or related field. Every 15 hours of graduate college coursework beyond a bachelor's degree can be substituted for one (1) year of experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- College student and leadership development theory and practice
- Demonstrated experience in event planning,
- Strong communication skills including communicating effectively in written, electronic and verbal formats; keeping others informed of news, procedures, etc.
- Ability to organize information/tasks in an efficient manner, attention to detail, meet established deadlines and ability to make accurate decisions
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Student Personnel, Higher Education, Counseling, Public Administration or related field.
- One (1) of experience in event planning, student programming or related field.
- Experience advising student leaders in the process of event planning, marketing, customer service and risk/crisis management.
- Experience with and an understanding of marketing strategies in the promotion of events to a college campus including social media.
- Experience managing budgets, publicity and marketing, leadership training, student development, etc
- Experience with contract negotiation, working with agencies, and developing effective working relationships
Physical Requirements:
Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment including but not limited to phone, printers, copiers, and calculators. Ability to communicate with others and accurately exchange information. Ability to remain in a stationary position. Ability to move, transport, and/or deliver items, supplies, or equipment. Ability to move or traverse across campus, within buildings and offices, and/or across external environments.
Additional Physical Requirement:
Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force to constantly move objects.
