Job Story
Under general supervision, this student position supports the daily operations and sustainability of the SGA x Community Garden. Must be able to assist with seasonal garden transitions, perform routine plant care, and maintain sustainable practices. Must demonstrate reliability and a strong commitment to environmental stewardship, food security, and community engagement. Position may require periods of working with minimal supervision and making independent decisions in the absence of the supervisor.
Job Summary
A student assistant will carry out administrative and technical tasks requested by a supervisor. Depending on the area the student assistant is employed in, they may assist and mentor other students or provide support throughout the campus in various forms.
Job Duties
1. Represent the Community Garden at campus events and tabling.
2. Assist with planting, harvesting, and seasonal transitions.
3. Provide weekly updates to the Community Garden advisor including requesting materials needed to support the Community Garden.
4. Water and maintain plants at least twice per week.
5. Help with weeding, composting, mulching, and pest control.
6. Promote sustainability practices (composting, recycling, water conservation).
7. Support workshops, events, and garden programming.
8. Perform other duties as assigned to support the Community Garden
Required Education
High School diploma or equivalent. Enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours at Wichita State University.
Additional Requirements
• Must be a Wichita State student enrolled in at least 6 credit hours.
• Must maintain good academic standing.

Preferred Qualifications
• Interest in sustainability, food security, or community engagement.
• Ability to work outdoors and complete hands-on tasks.
• Organized, dependable, and strong communicator.
Physical Requirements
Ability to remain in a stationary position. Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment including but not limited to phone, printers, copiers, and calculators. Ability to communicate with others and accurately exchange information.
