Job Story
The Graduate Student Assistant for Communications and Marketing will play a vital role in supporting the College of Applied Studies’ communications and marketing efforts. This position offers a valuable opportunity for hands-on experience in various aspects of communications and marketing. The successful candidate will work closely with the communications and marketing team to execute strategies that enhance the college's brand, engage its audience, and promote its programs and initiatives.
Job Summary
A Graduate Staff Assistant (GSA) assistants university service and academic units in either non-teaching or non-research activities. Specific duties of the GSA vary widely, depending on the administrative or academic unit to which they are assigned, but should be at a level to make use of their education and abilities.
Job Duties
1. Content Creation: Assist in developing engaging content for various communication channels, including social media, newsletters, website, promotional materials, and more.
2. Photography and Video Production: Assist in attending events or planned photoshoots to capture photos and video content. Basic photo and video editing.
3. Social Media Management: Contribute to the planning and execution of social media campaigns to increase brand awareness, engagement, and followership across platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and LinkedIn.
4. Graphic Design: Create visually appealing graphics, infographics, and other design assets to support marketing campaigns and communication materials.
5. Website Editing: Complete University web training sessions, assist with website maintenance, design and editing.
6. Writing: Draft compelling copy for emails, social media posts, articles, and other communication channels, adhering to brand voice and messaging guidelines. Assist in writing for internal and external news outlets (newsletter items, press releases).
7. Event Coordination/Support: Provide promotional support for college events, including virtual and in-person seminars, workshops, and information sessions.
8. Market Research: Conduct research to identify trends, competitors, and opportunities in the higher education landscape, informing marketing strategies and decision-making.
9. Analytics and Reporting: Assist in tracking and analyzing the performance of initiatives via social media analytics and email marketing platforms. Prepare regular reports with key insights and recommendations for optimization.
10. Administrative Support: Provide general administrative support to the Communications and Marketing team, including scheduling meetings, organizing files, and responding to inquiries.
Required Education
Bachelor's degree
Additional Requirements
1. Currently enrolled in a graduate program in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, or a related field.
2. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a keen attention to detail and grammar.
3. Proficiency in graphic design software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and Canva.
4. Basic understanding of marketing principles and strategies.
5. Ability to work independently and collaboratively, managing multiple tasks and deadlines effectively.
6. Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data and draw actionable insights.
7. Commitment to upholding the college's values and mission, with a passion for higher education and student success.
Required Experience
To be eligible for an assistantship, students must be admitted to a degree program in either full or conditional standing. Students admitted on probation or placed on academic probation following admission may be eligible for assistantship awards under certain circumstances.
Preferred Qualifications
1. Familiarity with social media platforms and trends, with experience in managing social media accounts for organizations preferred.
2. Prior experience in communications, marketing, or related fields through internships, coursework, or extracurricular activities is preferred.
Physical Requirements
Ability to remain in a stationary position. Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment including but not limited to phone, printers, copiers, and calculators. Ability to communicate with others and accurately exchange information.
