Job Story
The School of Education in the College of Applied Studies at Wichita State University invites applications for an academic year, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Elementary/Special Education, with an anticipated start date in August 2025.
Job Summary
We seek an expert in areas related to, but not limited to, intensive interventions to improve academic and behavioral outcomes for young children and students with disabilities (early childhood to grade 6); including intellectual disabilities, reading disabilities, math disabilities, emotional and/or behavior disabilities with demonstrated conceptual, methodological, and applied knowledge and skills to join an engaged and committed faculty at Kansas’s only R2 university.

Meet expectations for research, teaching, and service as set forth by the department and college.
Job Duties
As a faculty member in the School of Education, the successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses in Elementary Special Education, work with various populations of students, colleagues, and community, engage in research and grant seeking activities, and provide service to the program, department, college, university, and profession.
Required Education and Experience:
- A Ph.D. in Elementary Education (special education emphasis) or related field, completed by date of hire. ABD is considered, with the condition that the degree is completed by the date of hire.
- Successful experience working collaboratively with teachers and school district personnel.
- Successful experience with diverse populations.
- Successful experience in teaching individuals with disabilities.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Evidence of potential for excellence in teaching and scholarship.
- Evidence of promoting and supporting diversity and social justice.
- Willingness to employ various strategies in instructional delivery and learning activities, flexible teaching methods, and applied learning approaches.
- Evidence of communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with diverse students and colleagues.
- Ability to work collaboratively with other faculty and professionals.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Earned Ph.D. in Elementary Education/Special Education or related field
- Three years professional-level PreK-6 special education teaching experience.
- Evidence of proficiency in the area of education for students with disabilities.
- Evidence of expertise in teaching individuals with disabilities.
- Previous university level teaching experience.
