Job Story
The Department of History at Wichita State University seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Latina/o/x/e History. A terminal degree in History and concentrations in Latinx studies and/or Latin American studies is required. Sub-specialties may include but are not limited to: Afro-Latin Studies; Ethnic Studies; Women’s Studies; Hemispheric Studies; Borderlands; Mexican; (Im)migrations; Diasporic Communities; Public History; Race and Ethnicity; and Environmental. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated record of research excellence, a commitment to undergraduate, graduate, and general education teaching, and a willingness to work with diverse populations.
Job Summary
Teach courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels using various instructional deliveries (e.g., traditional (face-to-face), hybrid, and fully online). To foster applied learning into the course design and engage with industry and local business community applied projects. To advance knowledge through scholarly activities (e.g., active involvement in committees, student mentorship, recruitment and retention initiative, outreach activities, etc.)

Job Duties
Duties include an active research program, teaching introductory surveys courses, undergraduate certificate courses, upper division courses, and graduate courses in their area of specialty, and serving on committees for the Department, College, and University. This position carries a 3/3 teaching load with opportunities to reduce course load depending on research and/or service commitments.
This position is a high priority for the University and the Department, as Wichita State is seeking to soon become classified as a Hispanic Serving Institution. Accordingly, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to participate in various related initiatives both on the WSU campus and in the larger Wichita community (Latinx Studies Certificate, Adelante Scholars Program, Hispanic American Leadership Organization, etc.).
