Job Story
The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry in the Fairmount College of Liberal Arts and Sciences invites applications for a benefit-eligible, tenure-track position in Computational Physical Chemistry at the rank of Assistant Professor starting in August of 2025.
Job Summary
Teach courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels using various instructional deliveries (e.g., traditional (face-to-face), hybrid, and fully online). To foster applied learning into the course design and engage with industry and local business community applied projects. To advance knowledge through scholarly activities (e.g., active involvement in committees, student mentorship, recruitment and retention initiative, outreach activities, etc.)
Essential Functions
Meet expectations for research, teaching, and service as set forth by the department and college.
Job Duties
A successful candidate is expected to actively and deeply engage in teaching, research and service. Tenure-track and tenured professors typically teach 3 courses per year and a lighter load of 1/1 in their first two years. Courses may be foundational general chemistry courses for majors and non-majors, physical chemistry and other courses consistent with department needs and candidate interest. Successful candidates are expected to develop a high-quality, visible and externally funded research program for undergraduate and graduate students with work published in peer-reviewed journals. The successful candidate is also expected to contribute to the vibrancy and shared governance of the department by engaging in service at the department, college, or university levels.
Required Education and Experience:
- PhD in chemistry, computational biology, biophysics, or a related field
- Post-doctoral experience
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of Physical and Computational chemistry
- Ability to deliver high quality teaching using evidence-based practices to effectively engage students from a range of backgrounds and experiences
- Ability to work effectively in a highly collaborative, engaging, and dynamic environment comprising individuals with a range of backgrounds, skills, and perspectives
- Ability to produce research and scholarly or creative achievements that enhance the program and the discipline
- Effective written and oral communications skills
- Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations
Additional Information:
Expected start date for this position is August 2025.
