Job Story
This position will be a member of the core PA faculty with responsibility for carrying out the duties related to teaching, scholarship, service, and advising. Faculty of the department also participate in program-related college, university, and community initiatives.
TEACHING LOAD: Your teaching assignment will be determined by the Program Director of the Department of Physician Assistant and the instructional needs of the department and college.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND EXPECTATIONS: As a member of a university faculty at the rank of Assistant Clinical Professor you are expected to demonstrate activity in these areas: teaching, scholarship, and service/practice. The following functions are expected for this position:
Teaching (70%)
Your responsibilities in teaching include expectations to develop, coordinate, and implement classroom, online and small group/laboratory instruction; engage in the development of new and creative instructional materials, teaching methods, and assessment activities; maintain a high level of expertise in the content areas taught; engage in curricular planning, assessment and improvement activities; develop remediation plans for students with low performance; provide academic and professional counseling and advising to students.
Scholarship (20%)
Your responsibilities in the area of scholarship include taking the initiative to engage in research/scholarship in areas of interest and expertise appropriate to Program needs; mentoring students in the development and completion of Masters of Physician Assistant research projects; modeling in teaching and scholarship, the concepts of life-long learning and evidence-based practice.
Service/Practice (10%)
Your responsibilities in the area of services include participation in service to the Department of Physician Assistant, College of Health Professions, Wichita State University, the profession, and the community. In addition, you will promote the vision, mission and goals of the University, College, and Department.
Job Summary
Teach courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels using various instructional deliveries (e.g., traditional (face-to-face), hybrid, and fully online). To foster applied learning into the course design and engage with industry and local business community applied projects. To advance knowledge through scholarly activities (e.g., active involvement in committees, student mentorship, recruitment and retention initiative, outreach activities, etc.)

Job Duties
An Assistant Clinical Professor is a member of the core PA faculty with a variety of responsibilities related to teaching, scholarship, service, student advising and other duties to meet annual objectives, accreditation standards, and programmatic requirements. In performing these duties, the faculty member is expected to teach or co-teach various courses, including hands-on labs and practicums, develop and implement diverse educational materials and assessments, and maintain expertise in their content areas. Faculty should also contribute to curriculum assessment and enhancement, offer remediation for under-performing students, and mentor students academically and professionally. In terms of research, faculty should embody lifelong learning principles, initiate research in areas aligning with program needs, and guide students in research projects and research related activities. Service responsibilities include participation in departmental committees, participating in college, university, and community initiatives, and assisting in the accreditation process. Faculty must uphold professional certification and licensure requirements and are encouraged (but not required) to maintain a clinical practice as time and responsibilities permit.
Faculty Requirements
- Graduation from a regionally accredited PA Program.
- 3 years of clinical experience
Required License/Certifications/Training:
- Current NCCPA certification; current license or eligibility to obtain license (through KSBHA) as a PA in the state of Kansas
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Demonstrated interest in working in a collaborative/interdisciplinary team
- Demonstrated commitment to interprofessional education or interprofessional clinical practice
- Demonstrated interest in evidence-based practice, research/scholarship, or grant writing
- Demonstrated commitment to contribute to building an inclusive and welcoming environment for colleagues and students
Preferred Qualifications:
- Graduate level degree (master's or doctoral) from a regionally accredited institution
- Five years of clinical practice experience
- Academic or clinically related teaching experience at the college/university level
- Experience in research/scholarship or grant writing
