Job Story
The School of Education in the College of Applied Studies at Wichita State University invites applications for an 12-month full-time assistant clinical professor of education and director of our Transition to Teaching program, beginning in June 2025. We seek an expert in areas related to, but not limited to, alternative teacher education, preparing individuals who are changing careers to become teachers, and middle and high school teacher education. We are looking for a collaborative colleague to lead our alternative certification program in the School of Education and join an engaged and inclusive faculty at Kansas’s only urban public research university.
As a faculty member in the School of Education, the successful candidate will teach graduate level classes in the summer, fall, and spring as part of our alternative teacher preparation program. The new faculty member will also work with various populations of students, colleagues, and community, engage in grant seeking activities, and provide service to the program, department, college, university, and profession.
Job Summary
Teach courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels using various instructional deliveries (e.g., traditional (face-to-face), hybrid, and fully online). To foster applied learning into the course design and engage with industry and local business community applied projects. To advance knowledge through scholarly activities (e.g., active involvement in committees, student mentorship, recruitment and retention initiative, outreach activities, etc.)
Job Duties
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
This position will lead the Transition to Teaching program in the School of Education. Faculty members share responsibility for programmatic and instructional decisions within and across program options. The position, being 12 month, carries a 4:4 load for fall/spring, with additional teaching in the summer. The director receives a 1-credit release each semester as part of administrative duties for leading the program.
The successful candidate will be able to:
1. Teach undergraduate and graduate level courses as assigned.
2. Supervise teacher candidates and coordinate school placements.
3. Provide service to departmental, college, university, professional and community constituencies.
3. Develop and maintain relationships with local school districts and agencies; attend relevant meetings.
4. Maintain student data and lead the program annual report, contribute to accreditation and university reports.
5. Direct recruitment and retention for T2T program.
6. Seek grants related to alternative certification programs.
Faculty Requirements
- A Masters, Ed.D., or Ph.D. in Education, in teacher preparation or related field, completed by date of hire
- Masters-level candidates would be hired as an assistant clinical educator while candidates with a terminal degree would be hired as an assistant clinical professor.
- Successful experience working collaboratively with teachers and school district personnel.
- Successful experience with diverse populations.
- Successful experience in teaching individuals from various backgrounds and life experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Evidence of potential for excellence in teaching.
- Evidence of promoting and supporting inclusive excellence and social justice.
- Willingness to employ various strategies in instructional delivery and learning activities, flexible teaching methods, and applied learning approaches.
- Evidence of communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with diverse students and colleagues.
- Ability to work collaboratively with other faculty and professionals.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Earned Ph.D. in Teacher Preparation-Secondary Education or related field.
- Three years’ professional-level 6-12 teaching experience.
- Evidence of leadership in education.
- Previous university level teaching experience.
