Pay: Range begins at $17.73/hr and can be adjusted based on experience

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8am to 5pm

Job Story

The Wichita State University Police Department is seeking a detail-oriented and professional Administrative Specialist to provide critical administrative and operational support to our campus police department.

The Administrative Specialist serves as a key support role within WSUPD, performing a variety of administrative, clerical, and customer service functions. This position requires strong organizational skills, discretion, and the ability to work effectively in a law enforcement environment.

Job Summary

Performs a variety of professional and administrative duties that facilitate the operations of a function(s), program(s), and/or department(s).

Essential Functions

Supports the programs and services provided by the department(s) by performing varied or related processes which may include creating and maintaining databases and websites, monitoring, facilitating, and enforcing compliance with established criteria, guidelines and standards, etc. May coordinate, attend, prepare materials for and/or take minutes at meetings and special events. May prepare or assist in the preparation of budgets, grant applications, proposals, status reports and/or financial statements. May identify and pursue ways to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of administrative procedures used by students, faculty, visitors and staff. May order and maintain sufficient inventory of office supplies and equipment. May be assigned to lead, assist, coordinate or support special projects as needed.

 

Required Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Two (2) years of experience in general office, clerical, administrative support or related field

Required License/Certifications/Training:

  • None

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise appropriate personal initiative and accountability
  • Exceptional attention to detail, organizational and record keeping skills
  • High level of service orientation, with outstanding customer service skills, attitude and critical thinking
  • Ability to interact with students, faculty, office co-workers, and the public in a friendly and professional manner
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a professional Law Enforcement office environment to include, but not limited to; knowledge of office ethics and proper office behavior
  • Demonstrated proficiency with word processing platforms, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, mail merges, etc.); accurate typing skills; ability to quickly learn new software
 

Additional Information:

This position will have unescorted access in the UPD Building. In order to comply with the FBI’s Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) and KBI’s Kansas Criminal Justice Information Systems (KCJIS) requirements, the person hired for this position must undergo additional background requirements including verification of identification, a state of residency and national fingerprint-based record checks. Selected candidate must be a US Citizen.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to remain in a stationary position. Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment including but not limited to phone, printers, copiers, and calculators. Ability to communicate with others and accurately exchange information.
