Job Story
PURPOSE
The Children’s Tutor will assist elementary school children with improving their reading and math skills through systematic reading and tutoring sessions conducted at a local elementary school.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Excellent reading skills and willingness to share a love of reading and math
• Patience and enthusiasm for helping children, respectful attitude
• Ability to work separately with child within a larger context of child/tutor groups
• Ability to work with small group of children to review lessons
• Creative and enthusiastic when covering lesson plans and reading selected books
• Attention to detail regarding paperwork and prompt arrival/departure from school
• Provide own transportation to local school
Payment Plan
Financial Aid Work Study eligible for this position. Bi-weekly time sheets will need to be turned in to the Wichita State Coordinator.
$14 for up to 30 hours per week Mon – Fri 7:30 to 6:30 depending on school’s availability
Job Summary
A student assistant will carry out administrative and technical tasks requested by a supervisor. Depending on the area the student assistant is employed in, they may assist and mentor other students or provide support throughout the campus in various forms.
Job Duties
JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Work directly with kindergarten through sixth grade students to improve their reading and math proficiency skills
2. Provide detailed feedback of child’s progress on lesson plans
3. Perform one-on-one work with individual students, small group work, or class activities
4. Collaborate with Principals, Assistant Principals, supervisors, and teachers to assess students’ needs and how to best address them
5. Be a positive role model inside and outside of the classroom, be professional in his/her workplace behavior, this means showing up to work on time and making the proper contacts when he/she is ill, going to be late, and/or absent
6. Commit to working consistent hours throughout the semester
7. Communicate effectively with teachers and administrators
8. The tutor is required to complete the following:
a) Complete MyWSU Not Anymore Title IX Training
b) Background Check
c) TB Testing
d) Complete LinkedIn Learning Pathway
e) Complete Ted Ed Lessons
f) Enroll in a zero-credit internship class
g) Agree to and sign a Work Authorization Agreement
h) Mid-term visit from WSU coordinator
i) One reflection session per pay period – due with timesheets deadline
Required Education
High School diploma or equivalent. Enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours at Wichita State University.

This is specific to each position and department. See additional requirements and preferences.
Physical Requirements
Ability to remain in a stationary position. Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment including but not limited to phone, printers, copiers, and calculators. Ability to communicate with others and accurately exchange information.
