Job Story
As a tutor with the TRIO Disability Support Services Program, you will meet weekly with students to help them become self-sufficient, independent learners and assist them in understanding areas and topics in courses with which they are experiencing difficulty.
Job Summary
A student assistant will carry out administrative and technical tasks requested by a supervisor. Depending on the area the student assistant is employed in, they may assist and mentor other students or provide support throughout the campus in various forms.
Job Duties
• Make a commitment to be available to tutor for the ENTIRE semester.
• Attend all scheduled tutoring sessions on time.
• Maintain contact via face-to-face, phone, or email communication with the Tutor Coordinator in the event of any concerns/problems. Keep the Tutor Coordinator aware of any address, telephone, or schedule changes.
• Attend the mandatory CRLA Tutor Training at the beginning of the Fall/Spring semesters.
• Attend all monthly tutor meetings/trainings.
• Conduct all sessions on campus in the TRIO DSS tutoring rooms, Ablah Library, or any other available building on campus. Off campus locations are prohibited.
• Check assigned office mailbox at least 3 times weekly.
Required Education
High School diploma or equivalent. Enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours at Wichita State University.
Additional Requirements
1. Tutor must be currently enrolled at WSU as an undergraduate/graduate student
2. Must be of sophomore or higher class standing
3. A strong academic background in the subjects to be tutored
4. Maintain a minimum overall GPA of 3.0
5. Must have a B or better in the course to be tutored
6. Must have proficient English-speaking skills
7. Transfer students must have completed at least one full semester at WSU

Preferred Qualifications
1. Applicants who have taken the course(s) they wish to tutor at Wichita State University
2. Grade of A in the course(s) to be tutored
3. Experience tutoring or working with individuals with disabilities
Physical Requirements
Ability to remain in a stationary position. Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment including but not limited to phone, printers, copiers, and calculators. Ability to communicate with others and accurately exchange information.
