Job Story

The Department of Economics in the W. Frank Barton School of Business invites applications for a Senior Educator position in Economics to begin in the fall of 2027.

Candidates will teach courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels using various instructional delivery formats, including traditional face-to-face, hybrid, blended, and fully online instruction. The position will foster applied learning in course design and engage with industry and the local business community through applied projects. The successful candidate will also advance knowledge through scholarly activities, including active involvement in committees, student mentorship, recruitment and retention initiatives, and outreach activities.

We are looking for an instructor who can teach undergraduate- and graduate-level courses such as Behavioral Economics. They will establish clear learning objectives, develop curriculum and instructional materials that accomplish those objectives, and provide students with the support needed to succeed.

Job Duties

The successful candidate will be expected to:
1. Teaching: Teach four courses in the fall semester and four courses in the spring semester. Each course is three credit hours, with 2.5 hours of class time per week. Classes will be taught at the undergraduate and graduate levels using face-to-face and other instructional modalities, including online and blended formats.

2. Course Design and Student Support: Establish key objectives for classes; create curriculum that accomplishes the established objectives; develop syllabi that outline the topics to be explored and list due dates for assignments and examinations; give lectures and organize activities to present material and deepen understanding of coursework; and answer students’ questions and provide support to help them succeed.

3. Applied Learning and Community Engagement: Engage with local businesses and the larger community to provide applied-learning opportunities for students through industry- and community-based projects.

4. Service and Scholarly Activities: Engage in service activities at the department, Barton School of Business, university, profession, and local community levels. Scholarly activities may include active involvement in committees, student mentorship, recruitment and retention initiatives, and outreach activities.

Required Education and Experience:

• Graduate level degree or Equivalent Experience in the Field
• Teaching experience

Faculty Requirements

• A graduate-level degree or higher in Economics or closely related field, at the time of application.
• For degrees in a related field, direct experience within the field of economics.
• Teaching experience at any level.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Evidence of technical and soft skills
• Knowledge of Behavioral Economics, statistics, and principles of microeconomics and macroeconomics.
• Ability to build professional relationships within the community and across the university at all levels.
• Ability to provide instruction of curriculum to a variety of learners.
• Commitment to collaborative processes and environments.
