Job Story
When students need support in developing their reading, writing, and critical thinking skills, they can rely on the VSSS Language Arts tutor to provide personalized academic assistance in a welcoming, student-centered environment.
The Language Arts Peer Tutor helps students strengthen their abilities in areas such as grammar, essay structure, thesis development, reading comprehension, and literary analysis. By offering one-on-one and small group tutoring sessions, the Peer Tutor empowers students to become more confident, independent learners.
In this role, the tutor collaborates closely with academic support staff and other tutors to ensure that students receive consistent, high-quality guidance aligned with course objectives. The tutor also models effective study strategies, provides constructive feedback, and encourages students to actively engage with their coursework.
Ultimately, the Peer Tutor contributes to student success by fostering academic growth, building confidence, and promoting a culture of learning across campus.
Job Summary
A student assistant will carry out administrative and technical tasks requested by a supervisor. Depending on the area the student assistant is employed in, they may assist and mentor other students or provide support throughout the campus in various forms.
Required Education
High School diploma or equivalent. Enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours at Wichita State University.
Additional Requirements
Must be a sophomore or higher attending Wichita State. Must have and maintain AT LEAST a 3.0 GPA or higher.

This is specific to each position and department. See additional requirements and preferences.
Preferred Qualifications
English major, journalism major, or similar major.
Physical Requirements
Ability to remain in a stationary position. Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment including but not limited to phone, printers, copiers, and calculators. Ability to communicate with others and accurately exchange information.
