Work Schedule: Typically 8-5, Monday-Friday; evenings and weekends may be required occasionally. Work is performed onsite and in-person.
Export Compliance Requirement: This position requires access to EAR or ITAR controlled technologies. Applicants are required to be eligible for employment under U.S. export control laws and must meet the requirement of being a “U.S. Citizen”.

The National Institute for Aviation Research is looking for a Test Technician for our environmental test laboratory. Job Summary
Supports research and testing activities to ensure satisfactory completion of research projects. Plans and prepares test setup, performs testing to the test procedure and standards, records and analyzes data, and builds reports. Works with undergraduate and graduate students while performing test technician duties.
Essential Functions
Supports research and testing activities to ensure satisfactory completion of research projects. Plans and prepares the test setup, performs testing to the test procedure and standards, records and analyzes data, and builds reports that align with the quality manual. Performs tests to required specifications. Completes necessary training for the proper implementation of standards. Works with and provides supervision as needed to undergraduate and graduate students to ensure satisfactory completion of research projects. Maintains and updates Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's), develops new SOP's, and participates in 6S and lean continuous improvement. Maintains a proper recording system to ensure correct data collection. Maintains organization and cleanliness of the lab. Performs calibration checks on equipment and chambers, and cleans and performs maintenance of the equipment at schedule intervals.
Required Education and Experience
High school diploma or equivalent
Two (2) years of related experience, and experience with general hand tools, both mechanical and electrical.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to initiate work as a self-starter and to prioritize with time management skills
Demonstrated ability with attention to detail and analytical aptitude
Familiarization with, and ability to perform tests to, the commercial and military aviation standards including but not limited to RTCA DO-160, and military MIL-STD-461, 704 and 810 standards
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to work independently and as team player; work in an environment that builds people, engages the community, and provides customer satisfaction
Preferred Qualifications
Associate’s Degree in related field
Use and programming of data acquisition tools and systems.
Knowledge of environmental chambers/ovens
Use of electrical measurement equipment (RF signal generators, spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, etc.)
Knowledge of pressure & vacuum systems
Knowledge of RTCA DO-160 and MIL-STD 461 environmental testing standards
Physical Requirements
Ability to inspect and/or surveil materials, equipment, reports, and/or incidents and identify any errors, needs and/or determining factors. Ability to use tools, equipment, and technology necessary to do the job. This includes dexterity in instrument manipulation. Ability to move, transport, and/or deliver items, supplies, or equipment. Ability to communicate with others and accurately exchange information. Ability to move or traverse across campus, within buildings and offices, and/or across external environments. Ability to interpret effectively, accurately and impartially, both receptively and expressively. Ability to remain in a stationary position.
