Job Story
The NIAR Composites & Structures lab is looking for a student assistant to work with experienced engineers in the field of material science and scientific research.
Job Summary
A student assistant will carry out administrative and technical tasks requested by a supervisor. Depending on the area the student assistant is employed in, they may assist and mentor other students or provide support throughout the campus in various forms.
Job Duties
Performance testing of metals and polymers.
Data collection, correlation, interpretation, and analysis.
Follow industry test methods like ASTM and ISO.
Sample preparation for testing, conditioning, and operating analytical instruments.
Prepare reports, presentations, and technical documentation.
Required Education
High school diploma or equivalent
Requirements
Undergraduate or graduate students majoring in Chemistry, Mechanical, Industrial, or Aerospace Engineering.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and supervisors.
Additional Information
Handling Hazardous materials.
Ability to stand for long periods of time
The position requires climbing and lifting
Physical Requirements
Ability to remain in a stationary position.
Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment, including but not limited to phones, printers, copiers, and calculators.
Ability to communicate with others and accurately exchange information.
