Job Details
NIAR ATLAS (Advanced Technologies Lab for Aerospace Systems) is seeking a CNC programmer for Automated Fiber Placement (AFP) machines. Previous experience with programming AFP equipment is not a necessity as the applicant will be trained in AFP programming, but prior CNC programming is essential to aid in knowledge transfer.
Job Summary
Analyzes and deciphers complex technical drawings, blueprints, and design schematics to ensure accurate machine setup and operations. Utilizes advanced computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) software to create and optimize part programs for automated composite manufacturing equipment. Collaborates with designers to improve production quality and efficiency.
Essential Functions
Analyzes and deciphers complex technical drawings, blueprints, and design schematics to ensure accurate machine setup and operations. Utilizes advanced computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) software to create and optimize part programs for automated composite manufacturing equipment. Collaborates with designers to improve production quality and efficiency. Implements quality control measures to ensure accurate part programs for manufacturing team. Interfaces with manufacturing team to troubleshoot programming issues and ensure quality fabrication. Champions the onboarding and training of staff; provides guidance and expertise on CNC machine operations and related software applications.
Required Education and Experience
High school diploma or equivalent by hire date
Three (3) years of manufacturing CNC programming; experience with AFP programming software
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Proficient in deciphering design blueprints.
Keen attention to detail and precision in execution.
Ability to work autonomously and adhere to strict deadlines.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Practical experience with hand tools and assembly processes.
Preferred Qualifications
Extensive expertise in computer modeling and CAM software.
Experience with CGTech’s Vericut software or equivalent.
Familiarity with G-code.
Exposure to CAD software; CATIA or 3DExperience.
Physical Requirements
Ability to use tools, equipment, and technology necessary to do the job. This includes dexterity in instrument manipulation.
Ability to move, transport, and/or deliver items, supplies, or equipment.
Ability to communicate with others and accurately exchange information. Ability to remain in a stationary position.
Ability to ascend and descend ladders and/or stairs.
Ability to interpret effectively, accurately and impartially, both receptively and expressively.
